Ditched that garbage a year ago, and I've had it since the beginning with disks. They made it really to do, being the highest price of all of them, and almost completely full of garbage. By the time you finally find something that sounds good after 30+ minutes of filtering through all the terrible options, then realize that there's about a 1% chance it won't be terrible and regret starting, then switch to prime or Apple TV+...yeah, least watched of all services for the most money. The number of times that I wasted time looking for things, just to give up and switch to one of the other services was about 99.9% of the attempts.

Their "approve every show without checking to see if it's watchable, spend a ton to provide garbage, then complain to users that expenses are too high so they have to raise prices to continue to provide a quality product (they're j joking, right?)" business model is laughable.

Such a waste of money, IMO.

Netflix is worth the price for Cobra Kai alone.

That show is worth $100 a year...?

I remember when seasons of shows were for sale for like $20. Then Netflix came along and you could watch them that way. And then Netflix...wait...

I know that B/R or sports on MAX full time was never the plan, but having kept it there for a year and now switching it seems tough. Switch happened March 30

Fox finally fully steps into streaming.

For the first time, cord-cutters and cord-nevers will have live streaming and on-demand access to the full portfolio of FOX brands including FOX News, FOX Business, FOX Weather, FOX Sports, FS1, FS2, BTN, FOX Deportes, FOX Local Stations and the FOX network as well as the option to bundle FOX Nation within one platform.

ESPN's direct to consumer service is expected to launch in time for the NCAA Football season.

So, if I understand correctly, come fall, one could theoretically drop cable/satellite and now YouTube TV/Hulu/etc as well, and subscribe to JUST these apps to be able to watch every nationally broadcast NFL/college football game?

- ESPN (ABC, ESPN, ACC Network, Big 12, SEC Network)
- FOX One (FOX, Big 10 Network, Big 12)
- Amazon (NFL Thursday Night Football)
- Paramount+ (CBS, Big 10 Game of the Week)
- Peacock (NBC Sunday Night Football)

Granted, NFL Sunday Ticket is exclusive to YouTube TV, but I'm not counting that.

Obviously, it would suck having to navigate between apps, as opposed to having all games on a single cable/streaming service. That, and I've grown so accustomed to YouTube TV's multiview that it would be hard to live without it during the busier times of the year.

But it sounds like every game would at least be available otherwise.

Now, if Apple or Amazon or someone would just create the equivalent of a scrollable "guide," incorporating all the various live content from all the various apps (and add multiview to boot), we'd really be getting somewhere.

But are you really saving anything by having all those services? Plus as mentioned, the headache of navigating between apps to see what you want? I think I'll just keep it simple and stay with YouTube tv.

I wonder what FoxOne will be. Have to think they keep it under $15/month to stay competitive
Quote:

- ESPN (ABC, ESPN, ACC Network, Big 12, SEC Network) - $29.99
- FOX One (FOX, Big 10 Network, Big 12) - $?
- Amazon (NFL Thursday Night Football) - $14.99
- Paramount+ (CBS, Big 10 Game of the Week) - $7.99
- Peacock (NBC Sunday Night Football) - $7.99

Probably not much. I currently subscribe to YouTube TV and a number of apps, but not Paramount+ or Peacock regularly. So, in theory, I'd essentially be dropping my YouTube TV subscription ($83) and replacing it with ESPN ($30), FOX One ($15ish?), Paramount+ ($8), and Peacock ($8) for a savings of $20 per month if not less. But losing a ton of navigation convenience, multiview, and a number of other channels in the process.

So, yeah, definitely not worth it yet.

At least they're smart enough to recognize that the terrible decision they made was a terrible decision, I guess.

Plus you know the ESPN service is going to go up in price. I'll bet it's at least $40-$45 within a couple years.

If you want the complete NFL season, you will also need Netflix for a bit.
Also, I think ESPN sold TNT some Big 12 and some of the CFP rights, so you'll need HBO Max for the playoffs.

I think it's just easier to buy another TV instead of keep switching between apps.

Agree, but even with YTTV or FUBO or any satellite/cable provider, you would still miss out on the Amazon or Netflix games. Plus, I expect there to be at least one streaming only playoff games again.

Regarding saving money, it has been cheaper than the original cable/satellite model that locked you into a two-year commitment, especially when you are able to easily pause or cancel your subscription for months.

Also, I'm guessing when you factor in bundles with other services, most people aren't paying full price for several services or have Black Friday promos.

Also, Youtube has entered the chat for broadcasting the NFL, so I think it could be a big deal that Youtube is streaming their first major US Sport live.

Not cutting edge, but ESPN was likely going to take over the NFL Network and RedZone channel, which would have been big for the ESPN App.

Also, I think the bigger news would be that the NFL may own 10% of ESPN.

I just would like to be able to watch NFL RedZone without any ESPN "personalities" involved.

Don't see how they don't try to push for more airtime/coverage for NFL over other sports.

It's a 10% stake, not complete ownership. NFL has always been the biggest thing on ESPN anyway. If anything, I'm guessing it means ESPN coverage would be even rosier towards the NFL than it already is.

UFC no longer on ESPN but on .... Paramount +

I would have to think that at some point, Paramount will need to figure out how to have subscribers that aren't just churning through free subscriptions 1-2 months at a time.

Seems like the end of ESPN broadcasting any football except NFL. No UFL games. It would be in the best interest of NFL/ESPN to want to broadcast NCAA games as it is essentially NFL's minor league, but only as long as NFL doesn't view NCAA as a competitor.

WWE and UFC are owned by the same company. WWE and ESPN literally just signed a huge deal. I have no idea how all of this will shake out, but it's very confusing from the outside.

I think ESPN knew UFC was on the way out so they went and replaced that with WWE. I don't think TKO was unhappy with ESPN otherwise they wouldnt have let WWE sign with them. It think its just more that the UFC deal was up for bid and Paramount needs SOMETHING to get viewers to sign up and they have tons of cash on hand now that their deal with Skydance is greenlit. I'm not a UFC viewer so it does nothing for me but its not lost on me how huge getting rid of the PPV model is. With their ESPN deal, you had to sign up for ESPN+ AND pay for each PPV event. So this seems like a win for UFC fans. Sure its ANOTHER app to sign up for but they wont be paying for PPVs and chances are UFC was the only reason they had ESPN+.
