Last Friday we went to the Dierks Bentley Broken Branches at Dos Equis in Dallas so we could see Zach Top. I assume he signed onto this tour before blowing up, he played for an hour, blowing through his songs. The whole crowd was singing every song. I'm not sure that could be said for Dierks' set. I hope I get to see Zach as a headliner in the near future.
I'd be remiss if I didn't drop this in here. So great:

Hell yeah! Watching from the couch right now. Absolutely dying that I didn't make the Panic>Billy run when I knew he was going to sit in with Panic. Didn't excpect an entire second set plus encore but live streamed it on nugs. Pure insanity.

Speculation of a possible Duane Trucks and Jimmy Herring sit in tonight. Hope you get that!

Duane Trucks that is the drummer for Widespread Panic now and has played drums with Billy on past Halloween shows and the Ryman MTV Unplugged themed show. Brother of Derek.

But Derek Trucks did run across the street in Nashville two years ago at setbreak of his own show to sit in with Billy and then got back across town late for his second set with Tedeschi Trucks Band and they just went on without him. Ha.

I cannot wait to hear a review from you getting Leaders (of which I"ve still been chasing for 24 shows now) into Black Sabbath into Led Zeppelin.

That stretch was incredible! It is crazy how different his set lists are from night to night and even week to week. I wish I'd gone both nights, but night two definitely would have been my winner.

I saw Styx and REO a couple of years ago. Styx is so good live. I almost went this time just to see Don Felder.

I know the theater show is. Moody center show might be but but not bad on secondary.

You had to buy big Moody tickets to be entered in the AXS lotto for ACL Live for a chance to buy tickets.

We got selected, 2 ticket limit, and got six the other day the second they went on sale. Last show of the year since they sadly are taking NYE run off.

Big Moody show should be easy to come by. I'd suggest checking day of show when TM does their sudden release of great seats. If not they'll be sold on CashorTrade for face or less.

Hell yeah! Have you seen the photo of the list of songs he looks at when writing a setlist? It's over 900 songs that they have played.

I personally preferred night 1 by a small margin but both were off the charts. That claw hammer solo segment and then Billy Failing on Dos Banjos was also top notch. Also, that End of the Rainbow was the best version I've watched.

I'm trying to miracle my way to Australia next month. We'll see what happens...

Hold on, so Austin has the Moody Center, Moody Theatre (ACL Live), and Moody Amphitheater? That can't possibly get confusing at all.

Yeah...I had this conversation with a friend the other day after she took an uber to the wrong Moody venue for a show earlier this year

Just returned from Metallica at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte:
  • I used public transportation. I don't feel great about it, but $6.60 for light rail beats $80 for venue parking.
  • Suicidal Tendencies went on at ~6pm - they had good energy, but were playing to a half empty venue. I wasn't familiar with a ton of their stuff, but they were good enough - probably the best LA Mexican Skater Metal band I've ever heard.
  • Pantera went on at ~7pm. I was surprised at how good Phil sounded at this stage of his career. They played all the songs you'd expect, except for Cemetery Gates (they did a pre-recorded interlude of it with pictures of Vinnie and Dime on the monitors, which was nice). Finished up with Walk and Cowboys from Hell, of course.
  • Metallica took their sweet time and didn't start until ~9pm. They were great, as expected - played a couple of tracks from 72 Seasons and a bunch of their hits, as well as a section midway through where Kirk and Robert did some noodling while James and Lars took a break. Highlights were probably Creeping Death, Ride the Lightning, and Seek & Destroy.
  • Stage setup was a hollow circle with the VIP floor seats in the middle. Allowed all the acts to circle around the stage so everyone on the floor could get a look; I think Pantera had two drum kits set up, and Lars had at least three or four.
  • I saw: two or three people pass out, one dude puke all over himself, an old guy try to fight a fat long-haired Mexican, and the counter-sniper setup. I was also on the edge of some desultory attempts at moshing, got a drink spilled on me, and had a dude slap my back in an attempt at camaraderie. He said he worked for Toyota.
  • I am too ****ing old for floor seats.

Thanks for the info!

So for those going to the Houston show this weekend, should we expect about the same for timing? Suicidal Tendencies going on around 6:00?

I'm guessing this massive stage production with 100s of people tearing it down every night and setting it up again have got the show schedule pretty dialed in

In dallas pantera played an hour.. so 8-9 gap between.

In Charlotte, Suicidal Tendencies played from about 6:00 to 6:45. Pantera came on right around 7:00 and played until about 7:50-8:00. Metallica played from about 9:00 - 11:00.

Per a buddy, it was about the same in Atlanta.

It's wild that they have a stadium full of people standing around for an hour between acts. If Metallica wants to go on at 9 why don't they just have the other bands start later?

an hour isn't that long for that size of a place. Lines for food, drinks restrooms, etc. plus just a further distance to walk to those points.
plus at that point you've probably had 3 drinks and more likely to go get merch and that has a line too.
Plus pantera has two drum sets that have to be removed, multiple wah pedal stations for zakk, etc.
A bit more involved in transitioning compared to typical end stage set up.

Final thought; my pics from Dallas indicate pantera bowled out at 8:59, and metallica were on stage right on the hour, like exactly. So that's 60 minutes, but at T minus 10 minutes it 'starts'; long way to the top and ecstasy of gold.

Wild. I just looked at an Uber from my hotel and its $18. Let's say it goes to $30 on the day of the concert, I can have some drinks and not worry about anything but getting in line after for a ride home. I guess the ride home could be peak $50 but $80 ish for an Uber or $70 advance is a no brainer. I saw $50 day of to park but still...

Texags knows stuff, so what is the best "get to NRG" strategy? We used to park at that Walmart next door to avoid traffic, but I haven't tried that in awhile.

I'll be at Metallica and have seen Heart many times.

Was lucky enough to be in Seattle for their concert celebration of admission to R&R HoF. Show had been sold out for weeks but I bribed the ticket manager and she put a chair next to the photographer and gave me a handwritten note on her stationery to get me in.
