I have to know, is their fan base way beyond the metal community at this point?

I have never seen a metal band sell out an arena instantly, and then second hand tickets are several hundred for way upper sections. This has to be the work of pop fans.

I mean, yeh maybe metallica doing 40th anny or symphony shows.. those were super high demand, but those were 1 time only, one city only deals.

This ST tour is a full arena tour.. many cities (granted, very few in the south). I just don't see that demand happening with just the 'metal' fans, leading me to believe they have fully crossed over and loads of pop fans have embraced what they do.
I wouldn't say it's WAY beyond the metal community but they definitely have their own niche. It's comprised of horny alt/goth girls (one of my fav groups since high school) and people who genuinely have an appreciation for Vessel's musicality and lyricism (that's me).

The fact that Vessel records all vocals AND instruments except the drums is insane talent. I know Tobias Forge from Ghost does similar which is why I also appreciate Ghost even if I don't love every song they release.

Any opera metal fans here? The soprano voice pairs well with metal.

I like Nightwish. Who else should I try?

Within temptation was great through their unforgiving album (hydra was hit or miss. imo they went downhill after that, though I admittedly haven't listened to their latest stuff)
Delain
Epica
Tarja Turunen did some solo stuff after they kicked her out of nightwish (not as good imo. She missed their song writing talent)
Birthday massacre has some great stuff, though it's got a strong dash of goth and synth on top of the metal

A random song by that group came across my Amazon music, I thought it was 80s stuff. Guess I need to check it out.

Sharon Den Adel is a legend. But Within Temptation has gotten boring and stale. They've tried to keep up with the times, and it just doesn't hit right. They were perfect for the early to mid 2000's.

I don't really know how much Tobias records everything. Most recent album it just says he did bass. Frederick has done a few albums.

I know he wrote many of the early riffs. But ghost stuff isn't very technical, it's pretty basic really, as far as talent required to play it. It's why I liked it so much when it came out. Needed something simple and refreshing, and the gain knob turned down to about a 7.

Sleep token is pretty difficult to play.

Definitely Townsend records a lot of his songs aside from drums as well.

The Sky Will Turn randomly showed up on a Spotify playlist for me and I really like that one. They sound like the perfect band to make a soundtrack to an 80's vampire movie. They had a new album drop last month that's worth a listen. They showed up when I was on an industrial metal kick, lots of 3TEETH. Another band I found through that time was Deadly Apples which is very 90's industrial.

Orbit Culture's new single is such a banger. Intro is a MASSIVE hook. Always been a huge fan of them and this just cements them as a band that just doesn't miss for me. At all. They still haven't "broken out" I don't think as of yet but soon....

Went and saw this band last night last minute (haven't bought a ticket at the box office in a while!)

I'm totally addicted to this song, but the album is a great journey through some interesting genres/sounds. It's already 3 years old but I just came across it in the last few weeks, and can't seem to put it down.. even though I don't really care for the harsh vocal, I find the music very interesting. Plus there's quite a bit of clean vocal sprinkled throughout.

The next track on the album after This is it is this one.. which channels Weezer (literally), and heavy on the Muse towards the end.

The live show was off the chain. Lots of banter, audience interaction, silliness galore.

Not at all. I've also heard rumors that the lead from BFMV is possibly the guitarist for the new band President. A masked band that's supposed to play download this year and the rumor is that Charlie Simpson is the lead singer

Damn, talk about a band I'd thought I would never see here. Nekrogoblikon is great. I first saw them years ago in Mesa when I was gifted some free tickets. I went for the band name and boredom and stayed for the awesome. I have semi followed them ever since. That first song you posted has always been catchy as hell. I would love to see them again live. Their sound has changed so much since I first found them but their live sets have stayed great from what I have seen.

My pleasure. I've been pushing them on everyone I know who is a metalhead. They are on the verge of going mainstream I feel (or as much as you can as a metal band) and more exposure is always great for them. Seeing a lot more hype and chatter about Orbit Culture this year compared to other years. All of it overwhelmingly positive.

You should try their other stuff too. I love it all. Their Redfog EP was my favorite EP of the last several years. The track "Saw" is still consistently on my Top 10 most played since I first found them a couple years ago.

And They're about 40 years late lol.

Danzig is generally slower tempo, and nothing like that voice!

Is anyone else just hoping Lorna Shore pops up with something mind blowing soon? I personally haven't seen a release that's gotten me truly hyped in a while. Orbit Culture is a talented band, they just don't do it for me for some reason. Can't even pinpoint it. I just find myself bored halfway through their songs. That new one is probably the best I've heard though. Maybe I need to revisit.

It also looks like they just dropped a song from it a few hours ago lol.

Speak of the devil....

New single from new album just dropped a few hours ago. Epic sounding and Will injects that same emotion he has in Pain Remains I.

Definitely sounds like they are maturing their sound and I am here for it.

ETA: Damn, Shadows of Intent just released a new single a few hours ago too. All my dudes are dropping songs out of nowhere after months in the doldrums!

Anyone got a line on a couple of Metallica GA tickets for the June 14th show in Houston? My 21 year old son is my metal show companion. I unfortunately wasn't able to snag any at release. Please let me know!

What's the parking situation at NRG for a show? I haven't seen where parking can be purchased early. I am assuming $40 at the lots around the stadium. Thanks.

Certainly not Tobias' best performance but still fun, especially in the back half. Was a little surprised they didn't "ghost-ify" anything and stayed pretty much true to the original. Felt like Radio Gaga or Killer Queen were there for the taking in that regard.

Will be interesting to see what he (and with whom) performs at the Black Sabbath final show in a few weeks!

The long awaited Run for Your Lives setlist is now public as Iron Maiden kicked off the tour in Budapest last night. Was hoping for some deeper cuts and am super annoyed that after they marketed the tour as the first 9 studio albums, they played nothing from No Prayer for the Dying. Overall still a great setlist and as it feels like this might be it for Maiden after this tour, I plan to attend multiple shows when the tour hits the US next year.
