So book 8 is definitely just Wacky Races, right?
This is exactly what came to mind, but I wonder if the trap with the gate of the Feral Gods and the web merged the next few levels(I think the book said 4 levels). Can I just say that the goddess of chaos being in the wider universe is wild. It almost seems like the dungeon will expand to the wider universe as the AI gains influence.

Well just started to dip my toes into this world. This is not even remotely high literature or fantasy but damn the opening 20 pages are fun

Nope, it's literally a comic book. One hell of a fun and addictive comic book.

And it legitimately gets better and better. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

(Don't get caught up trying to understand the full train system in book 3. You'll understand when ya get there. It's not really needed and can bog you down. Just enjoy that ride too for what it is.)

Well got through 3/4 of the book yesterday after unexpectedly my dad ended up in the hospital. He is stable and cognizant but the book was much needed for some levity. Went and bought the other 6 books

Finished floor 8 last night. Man what a finish to that one! I feel like every book I've had a hard time getting into it as it gets explained but I'm completely blown away by the end. Started book 7 this morning and loving it so far more than the start to the other books. Excited to see what happens.

There have been several moments where I've been laughing hard enough that my wife asked me what was going on in the book. I tried to get her into it but it just isn't her style, but she loves hearing about the crazy stuff happening. I'm gonna be sad when I finish this one and have to actually wait for the next

Get ready for the ride! Such a fun series.

As mentioned above, when it gets to the trains, just go along with it and don't stress too much about trying to understand the setup. It gets really complicated if you think about it too much. Read my comments earlier in the thread if you get curious. That was my least favorite floor but it's still wildly entertaining and has some truly awesome moments

Finished Book 7 so I'm all caught up. What a ride so far.

That dream sequence with Katie and Carl and the baby tore me up good.

I don't fully understand the Ascendancy game part of this. Can someone explain that? I understand this is when all of the gods ascend and then there is a struggle to determine who becomes the chief god but that's about all I've gotten from it. So that just starts over with each crawl as well and is just kind of an epilogue to the Crawl?

Multiple things going on here. Think of everything that is going on with the crawlers as it's own reality show.

Then you have the recurring dramas like Vengeance of The Daughter going on simultaneously with floors 3, 6, 9, 12. They are running their own drama, with some crossovers with crawlers intervening.

Then you have faction wars, which is different governments competing in the crawl, and that's its own "show" with drama and intrigue being shaped during the earlier floors until the crawlers finally get down to that floor.

Lastly, you have the Ascendancy battle, which are the top 1% richest people in the galaxy doing the exact same thing as above. Technically a non-sponsored god could ascend, but I assume they normally aren't as intelligent as the elites competing.

So the Ascendency battle are just the elites fighting one another via God Kaijus to see who wins that season? Still a little confusing because the AI and offworlders are frequently describing which gods are likely to ascend based on how they are perceived or liked by the other gods so it's hard to tell if the elites are steering that or more along for that ride.

They're battling each other via god Kaijus, but as part of a larger pantheon of gods that are locked into the storylines. So if a rich person is piloting a god, the other unsponsored gods can be friendly or hostile based on the current story and their affiliations. For some, it may be easier than others.

Answering that last question about the Ascendancy I thought of the gods as NPC's for the first time, and now I wonder if Eris is a woken NPC. It would make sense since her power is being all knowing, and now that she's unsponsored, she has the agency to act on that knowledge. Maybe she knows what she is, but she also knows what's going on with the AI and its expanding influence.

I've assumed the Gods weren't even NPC's. I thought they were essentially game generated, individual AI's unlike the NPC's who can be formerly conquered populations who are memory erased and put into the game.

If that is not the case, then these Gods are really meta / supernatural beings that have been conquered and constrained into a game by the larger universe's cultures.

At what point do we drop spoiler tags? Seems like we can in line with movie rules?
ABATTBQ11

Hard to tell on spoiler tags because a number of people have been bright into the series by this thread, and books can take a lot longer than a series or movies to get through.

My understanding is that a lot of the NPC's are game generated AI's, but others are people who took deals and are used in places where they need to autonomy and continuity or to save costs because the game generated AI's cost more because they're more complicated. I think that's what the gods are because they can be driven.

Finished the newest book finally. Might go into book depression now that I can't continue.

I'm too lazy to read the whole thread but what are the highest recommendations in the Litrpg world to read next.

Everything else I've heard is a complete step down.

However, I hear He Who Fights Monsters and Everybody Loves Large Chests referenced the most.

My recommendation would be Cradle by Will Wight if you have never read it. 12 books, it's progression fantasy where the main character gets stronger and stronger. First book or two is a little slow but it really gets pretty good.

DCC Book Eight has a tentative title of "Carl's Book of Boom" and is expected November 1 of this year. Dinniman mentioned that it will be more "straightforward " than B7. Whatever that means.

Either way, we have a new countdown now! Mark your calendars.

Book 7 has a lot of weird unexplained concepts going on in the background with the different AIs and who the big players are in the background and everyone's motives. It had a lot of moving parts without great explanations for everything.

That's been the whole series! Actually, I would argue we know more now about the outside universe than we ever have with the conclusion of book 7. I thought this last book finally shed light on most of what we were confused about in the larger galaxy. At this point, the only thing we don't have a ton of background on are the lower floors that the Donut Posse haven't gotten to yet.
