I didn't want to be Johnny Raincloud, but I didn't find that very exciting. Especially the B plot about Penelope and Spiderman and Pattison doing his best Commodus from Gladiator. I understand you want some other people involved, but I'm pretty sure the Odyssey (spoiler alert for non-readers) is 99% Odysseus and his guys going to every crazy island in the world.
It's double weird considering "casted" isn't a word.

Considering it's been forever since we've had a sweeping, old school, big-budget blockbuster epic, my vote would be no. IMO, the more high-profile the cast the bigger the movie feels/plays.

Awesome trailer. Pretty psyched for this movie.
Some odd dialogue choices though. Tom Holland's "my dad will come home" line was odd and took me out for a second. Father felt like it would have worked better there. Idk dad just sounded wrong lol
Also, Odysseus yelling "Let's Go!" Lol
Agreed, "Should have been "Father" -- Dad sounds so weird there -- how can you spend millions of dollars making a film and flub that -- so weird

The age of the cast didn't bug me near as much as Nolan re-using the armor from the 1980's movie "Excalibur" for the scene with the giants.

Yeah, looks good, but the modern way of speaking combined with the American accents is just an odd choice that I'm having a hard time reconciling, at least on my initial viewing.

I don't think I've ever not liked Damon in any role, but the very initial reaction is the light haired, blue-eyed guy from Massachusetts speaking in a normal American accent is a bit of an odd choice to play a 700 BC Greek sailor. I realized as I was writing this post that I sound a lot like Redstone right now, but there are so many great European actors out there that could handle the role and look more the part. it's something I always appreciated about the casting for Dune - all the people who live on Arrakis look like they grew up in a desert.
Yeah, I agree. And the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to agree with Plano above. Not so much that the cast looks too young, but the cast looks too northern european. It should look more mediterranean. (Good God, I sound like Redstone, too).

How exactly is a European accent any more realistic than an American accent? These people were speaking Ancient Greek when the story was set. You guys think that speaking in non-rhotic modern British is more realistic to the period?
Maybe Tom Holland sounded like Goldmember when he tried to say father so they had to switch it to dad

I don't know, man. This is now a full-on flop risk for me, at least for Nolan standards.
Two nerdy points.
Most of Europe, even on the Med, looked pretty "northern European" before many centuries of back and forth conquest with Islam. Agree though that they should at least have a good base tan.
Didn't look it up but my guess would be the average male lifespan was probably about 45 in 700 BC so maybe Nolan is trying to keep that aspect aligned with history.

I want to love this movie and get excited for it but that just did absolutely nothing for me.

Lol, yes! As an "old" who's been raised by movies to believe all ancient greek/roman people spoke with a british accent, I demand Nolan continue that tradition!

Any audio recordings from 700BC to let us hear the Greek accents used during that time period? It is a Nolan film, just be happy if you can hear the actors over the sound effects and background music

(This is directed to the guy in the twitter post, not you) Ughh, yeah yeah, we know there were movies from 60 years that had charleton heston and elizabeth taylor using their american accents while playing ancient greeks or egyptians. "They did it in old movies so don't expect any different now!" What a lame (slightly condescending?) argument from some guy who simply comes across as if he can't stand any criticism of Nolan. And I say that as a huge Nolan fan who's still very excited about this movie. And I said in my original post above that once I see the full movie I may think entirely different about their accents.

Diversity casting in epics like this is ******ed. Lupita as Helen is a terrible choice. and if Ellen Page is playing Achilles, then thats probably even worse. I thought we were past this woke dei stuff?
