I took it more as him saying that Nolan is going for an old school epic/Hollywood vibe rather than him being condescending in the way you're describing. Nolan has straight up said that with this he's trying to bring back the Hollywood epics of yesteryear, hence the scope, casting, etc, with the accents being part of that.

This trailer did absolutely nothing for me and if anything, I'm less excited now.

Disagree. As I indicated, just above, these stories are universal, human, timeless. They need to reflect the diversity and universality and unifying aspects of our shared humanity.

I understand why this is uncomfortable for some, but we really need to advance toward more comprehensive and skillful analysis. After the casting of Tenet, I'm a bit more hopeful for Nolan.

Voice stuff doesn't bother me too much. We got a hard Scottish accent from James Bond playing a Spanish guy in Highlander. We got Merican Kevin Costner playing Robin Hood. All kinds of examples here. I'll allow this.

I don't really care about Elliot Page at all, but casting him as Achilles would go down as one of the worst cast choices of all time, even if it is limited screen time.

Achilles, the greatest warrior of all Greek legend, being played by a tiny 5'1 actor with zero size would be insane.

As I said last time you tried to play this card, I criticized the teaser trailer, while my lack of commentary/enthusiasm for this trailer should tell you exactly what I think about it as well. None of the trailers have been great, but as always with Nolan, I'm simply giving him the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong by the final product itself. Sorry my very level-headed approach clearly rubs you the wrong way.

It's ok. I'd just think that's an odd as **** casting choice no matter how much you like Nolan. This movie is going to be weird, but I'm interested to see where the hell he is taking this.

Very dismaying, lack of support for Diversity and Representation here. Let's give Nolan a chance. Helen is a major figure, with improved casting from Troy given where we are as a country now, and he deserves the benefit of the doubt after Tenet.

I get that Nolan is making this for people who haven't read and don't care about Homer (~97.3% of Americans under 70), but it's still odd to make these giants in space age-looking armor that makes them seem to be from some civilization which has far surpassed their Greek contemporaries. I almost admire how Nolan took the source material and was like "**** Homer, I'm Nolan. Other than the protagonist's name, I'm taking whatever liberties I want to on this and going full MCU."

I think he has said this is his spin on it and it's not meant to be a retelling of The Odyssey. He's doing is his own fantasical, surreal version of it. I don't really have a problem with it since he's told us ahead of time that's what he's doing.

I'll likely still enjoy it although I'm going to laugh at Helen if she's still portrayed to be the most beautiful woman on the planet and if Achilles is a girl. Those would be a bit too far for me, if those characters are 1:1s from The Odyssey.

Father is an old English word. Dad is likely much older and probably been used as long as humans can talk.

I don't think it's awful, I just didn't find it particularly exciting of a trailer.

But kudos to Twitter for being upset about armor in a movie that also features a cyclops.

Homer's works always featured both cyclops & armor.

I still don't get why the go-to strawman for this is that if an old story includes ANY mythological or fantasy elements, all of the realistic/historical elements in it should be disregarded. If you don't care how he handles costumes and stuff that's totally fine, but the "their are fictional creatures in this" argument doesn't make sense. If you're doing Arthurian legend movies, just because "their are dragons!" in it, you would be right to find it weird if some of the knights were wearing Kevlar vests with multicam covers.

Again....it's ok...it's Nolan's right...not saying it'll be bad

It's just weird.

Of course it can, but he's making a movie adaptation of Homeric legend rooted in a historical period.

It really is akin to making a Post-Roman Britain movie and having the Saxons wearing 15th century plate armor. As the director, it's your call, but just because their are dragons in it doesn't mean making the Saxons look like Early Modern knights makes sense.

It's just weird.

I see this as updating the old stop motion classics like Jason and the Argonauts. This isn't a historical epic. It's fantasy. Set in Ancient Greece. It's the equivalent of getting upset that Elvish armor in Mordor wasn't properly articulated or some similar bull**** in Middle Earth. And I say this as someone who is very invested in history.

The trailer is okay. It doesn't make me want to buy advanced tickets, but it also doesn't make me want to skip it. I have not read the book, nor am I likely ever to. I expect this to be more of an inspired by take rather than an adaptation. I will just take it as a fantasy movie.

With all of that, for me Christopher Nolan has earned the benefit of the doubt. I don't care who he cast with American accents, or armor or dialogue choices. If The Odyssey entertains me, then Nolan will have done what I need him to do with his movies.

But I still want Nolan's take on Blue Thunder.
