We had a laugh when the actor playing Louie had to take a breath even though he was dead. This was when everyone was in the room after be was pronounced, not the story when they were cleaning him up. You know that big boy can't hold his breath for long. I have always wondered how many retakes they have to do on shows like this due to the supposed-to-be-dead actor breathing

Inadequate prison food was this week's PSA. Go ahead and admit him where he can get 400 calories from 2 Ensures per day and some broth. That will get him back on track

I have taken care of hundreds of prisoners, I can't say I've ever seen one malnourished. In fact, most of them are in better shape than I am or fatter than I am.

I was expecting to find out he's a child diddler or snitch and that's why he was short on food and got his ass kicked.

Family friend was a CO for a while. They had a similar case with a convicted cho-mo, but that dude also needed a broom handle-ectomy.

I binged this show over the last couple of weeks and it's great, but damn it's intense. Pretty sure this show is better served watching one episode per week so you can decompress from each one. Watching 1-2 per day is not recommended, I learned my lesson.

Very few shows have me wanting more after watching. This was one of them.

do you ever read a post and want to star and it wonder why you can't but then you realize you can't star it because it was your post?

As a EM doc and fan of this board, would yall want to do an AMA (ask me anything) on the ET board for the PITT and emergency medicine at some point?

Dr Not yet Dr. ag, (or any other EM docs) if you are wanting to join too that would be great. Maybe we could pick a time and would love to give an hour or so, and just answer questions.

I have a hard time watching the show because it's so real and it's hard finding entertainment in something that is just so reminiscent of work, so I'm going along at a snails pace and way behind.

My brother in law is an ER doctor. I asked him if he liked it, and was specifically wondering if he'd be into it, simply bc I figured it could be hard to watch after spending all day at work.

what was his answer?

That may be what's up - they have focused a lot on people trying to be nice and have sympathy for the prisoner. New doc wanted him to stay longer, everyone wanting him out of handcuffs, trying to help him get his nutrition back on track, the blonde nurse taking away his pulse ox so he would have to be admitted and stay a few days. Either it's what you said and everyone that has been helping will feel gross knowing they helped a pedo, or it's just an ad to say good people are being treated poorly in prison, or what we are predicting - he goes crazy violent and hurts a doc or nurse when he should've been back at prison (hence the emphasis on keeping him cuffed.).

I hope they don't go this route. I'm still traumatized by seeing Lucy die due to a patient on ER when I was a kid. I'm sure Carter/Robby is still traumatized by that too.

I had nightmares about that one and I wasn't a kid.

I don't know if this is hitting anyone else's SM thread, but I'm here for all the "Baby Jane Dough" content!

I couldn't place where I'd seen the "Death Dula" actress. She was the chubby friend on the sitcom "Ed" about a lawyer that goes home and runs a bowling alley. It was where Julie Bowen landed after Happy Gilmore and before Modern Family. Good show from what I remember.

Santos is sneaky hot btw. I hope she stays.

Still good tv but this season is limping just a bit. This July 4th silliness is just lazy writing. Santos charting. Cancer lady choosing to check in like it's a hotel. Instead of bringing on 2 new docs that are interesting or compelling in some way, they brought in 2 just to do the same Abbott and Costello routine of annoyingness. The new nurse is also really bad - they write it like she's got a nursing degree but has never been in a hospital before

That was a pretty gutting way to end the episode last night. I'm assuming there was nothing that could have been done to save Louie and that Robby was upset with Langdon bc he was covering Louie when he died?

Interesting to see a quick glimpse of Santos and Garcia seemed to have made amends and more from last year. I kind of wonder if they are working up to Santos leaving based on some of the frustrations that her character has shown this season.

Finally catching up.

Yes, watching a beloved character die on a show can tug at your heartstrings.

But did anyone else see the irony in Louie's death, and the situation with the father who has diabetes and doesn't want to be admitted b/c of the costs? He lost his job and insurance and the exchange is expensive as hell (although he'd likely qualify for subsidies).

Then we have Louie, who is what they called a "frequent flyer" who has racked up probably close to $500k in medical costs over the years and his homeless so we (as in thru our insurance and 'facility charges") get to foot his bill.

One is trying to do the right thing and take responsibility for his debts, the other is a homeless alcoholic who let a tragic life circumstance end his life.

I like this show for the most part, but stuff like this and the situation with the prisoner are just roll your eyes moments. Like the writers have zero self awareness.

what was his answer?

answered this the first time it was asked, but he likes the show. obviously there are some things that are "hollywood," but he said its largely realistic. He did his residency on the south side of Chicago, so he saw some interesting stuff.

Why is that a roll your eye moment? I see it as more of an indictment of the medical system. The guy who wants to do right is going to be buried by the debt (and he cares because he has a family and is trying to be an upstanding person) and the guy who is homeless and doesn't care is more than willing to game the system.

Seems pretty real to me?

I've heard that a lot of prisoners get ripped due to their endocrine system overproducing testosterone as a fight or flight response from being locked down with a bunch of violent criminals 24/7/365. So a decent amount of protein from the commissary and a lot of push-ups helps lead to the prison physique. Any thoughts?
