I wouldn't have connected that movie to the shows either, but I have watched Into the Furnace several times and really like it, and you're right, it completely gels with the vibe of these two shows.

Finally got to it. Not bad.

I assume that what Ruffalo's character is dealing with is that the brother of the black daughter (both presumably adopted) is responsible in some way for the deaths of the wife and the other child in the family photo in the home.

An observation: In the last home the gang robs, why are the two "victims" so vehement in their protestations that they know the robbers? I realize that they are drug idiots, but doesn't even a drug idiot have a sense of self-preservation?

The drug dealer's lady even screams that she saw one of the crew's face.

At that point we had to have screenwriter intervention to prevent our anti-heroes from having the quandary of whether to kill them in cold blood.

Watched the first 2 episodes and love it.

Tension is incredible. Great story lines on all sides. I'm excited for the next episode.

For anyone that's enjoying Task and hasn't seen Mare of Easttown I highly recommend that you do. Task is a cat and mouse show whereas MoE is a whodunit. I did a rewatch since I haven't watched it since it originally aired and it's still great. I had forgotten all the layers that come out over the last 2 episodes of the show. I would recommend going in blind so that you don't have the ending spoiled.

Enjoying it through two episodes. The scene where Maeve was trying to hide the kid from law enforcement was pretty tense.

Like it so far. 1st episode is a bit slow but power through it. Also helps that there's nothing else on outside of Netflix docs and sports.

Mare of East Town. And if you haven't seen that, you should watch it as well.

For a movie comparison, maybe The Town?

The Town is an excellent comparison.

This is well-acted, but very, very dark.

I love dark media.

Like Vince Gilligan dark?

Ari Aster dark?

Its just gritty is all. Not dark, or at least not like Ari Aster dark. Just watch the first two episodes. Its worth at least two hours of your time to give it a shot.

I love The Town but the best movie comparison is Out of the Furnace, also written by Inglesby.

I consider anything in which children are in grave danger as "dark."

Finally caught up with all three episodes this weekend, and yeah this show is incredible. I can't remember the last time I saw something this rich with character, across a whole ensemble, where damn near every character feels like the lead whenever the focus is on them. Everyone is so fully formed, and has such deep backstories, tragedies, etc. And the way new information is doled out, episode by episode, that doesn't just connect dots, but provides such great, character-driven reveals... it's all just so masterfully done. Man. I already can't wait for next week.

I couldn't figure out who the guy on the task force was, I knew I recognized him but couldn't place his face. Went on IMDB and confirmed he plays Ser Criston Cole in House of the Dragon. Just thought I'd drop that info here if it was driving anyone else crazy.

I had no idea that dude had this kind of range. He's a completely different person in this show and utterly convincing as a 30-something Italian American agent/cop. Like, shockingly so. I really like his character.

Also, for those who saw 2022 Best Picture-winner CODA, the lead from that (Emilia Jones) is Maeve.

I saw CODA but didn't recognize her. She's doing very well.

I really hope they don't make him the leak on the law enforcement side. He's almost too obvious a choice, so hopefully the screenwriters throw us a curveball.

Only thing about that show is the accents are annoying…are those accurate PA accents?

They sound very similar to the accents they had in Mare of Easttown, so I assume they're accurate.

Accurate accents.
Not sure the leak is. They made it seem like it was Grassanova but it could be Clinton. My initial thought is the leak is from the bigger guy who is the biker gang expert. Damn good show!

My husband thought it was the FBI lady that assigned Tom Brandis to head up the task force. She assigned him bc she knew he was washed up and not ready, and assumed he would fail. But now he's getting too close so she's trying to undermine it.

She's also resentful at being forced out of the FBI due to age. Classic disgruntled traitor who feels insufficiently valued and/or rewarded for their labor.

That's where I'm leaning too for the leak.

I thought it was interesting that they made sure to show she was a key person there when they brought the two kids home that they adopted. Meaning she has much more importance in their lives than just his boss.

This week has been the best episode of the season so far, I was riveted the whole time. Definitely feels like Kathleen is the most likely mole because she's the one who set up the inept task force to begin with. I will say that Stover and Grasso aren't off the radar. Is Stover a ****up on purpose to be able to operate behind the scenes without anyone suspecting her? She didn't use her weapon in the house when she could have, maybe she thought the people there were from the Dark Hearts who showed up not long after they went in. For a guy that's a detective, who you'd think is pretty hardened and wouldn't GAF about anyone's opinion, he sure seems to want to get everyone to like him. There's definitely some The Departed vibes since there's moles on both sides.

Pelphry is stealing the show though, that scene with him and Maeve in the car was so damn good.

The conversation about somehow going to Canada all the way to Manitoba and the Discovery Islands gave me vibes of George and Lenny in Of Mice and Men.

Pelphrey basically played the Lenny character in Ozarks already too
