I wouldn't have connected that movie to the shows either, but I have watched Into the Furnace several times and really like it, and you're right, it completely gels with the vibe of these two shows.

Finally got to it. Not bad.
I assume that what Ruffalo's character is dealing with is that the brother of the black daughter (both presumably adopted) is responsible in some way for the deaths of the wife and the other child in the family photo in the home.
An observation: In the last home the gang robs, why are the two "victims" so vehement in their protestations that they know the robbers? I realize that they are drug idiots, but doesn't even a drug idiot have a sense of self-preservation?

Mare of East Town. And if you haven't seen that, you should watch it as well.
For a movie comparison, maybe The Town?

The Town is an excellent comparison.
This is well-acted, but very, very dark.

I couldn't figure out who the guy on the task force was, I knew I recognized him but couldn't place his face. Went on IMDB and confirmed he plays Ser Criston Cole in House of the Dragon. Just thought I'd drop that info here if it was driving anyone else crazy.

Also, for those who saw 2022 Best Picture-winner CODA, the lead from that (Emilia Jones) is Maeve.

I had no idea that dude had this kind of range. He's a completely different person in this show and utterly convincing as a 30-something Italian American agent/cop. Like, shockingly so. I really like his character.

My husband thought it was the FBI lady that assigned Tom Brandis to head up the task force. She assigned him bc she knew he was washed up and not ready, and assumed he would fail. But now he's getting too close so she's trying to undermine it.

I thought it was interesting that they made sure to show she was a key person there when they brought the two kids home that they adopted. Meaning she has much more importance in their lives than just his boss.

The conversation about somehow going to Canada all the way to Manitoba and the Discovery Islands gave me vibes of George and Lenny in Of Mice and Men.
