You want a proven name? Here he is. Probably the biggest name they could get besides Nolan.
I was warming to the idea of Jonathan Nolan - just started watching Fallout and was impressed - and that could mean Chris could've been a producer or have some other role. Though that wouldn't guest we success. IIRC Chris was an exec producer on MoS and BvS?
Still. DV is a proven commodity. Will get interest peaked and butts in seats depending on how picks up the martini glass. Will be interesting to see how he melds his big budget Dune tone with a more rough and tumble story. Maybe they lean more into the espionage angle. Either way, I'm interested and think it's promising.
Have you not seen Prisoners, Arrival, Bladerunner 2049, or Sicario? I've seen too many on this thread who seem to only reference Dune and Dune Part II, and just prescribe that kind of movie to Denis. Imo, those movies are evidence of what happens when you give a great filmmaker a full budget and creative control to bring his vision to screen.
I actually believe Nolan is more set in his "style" moreso than Denis. I view Denis as someone who can be more adaptive for what the story needs, while at the same time giving us his beautiful scenes. If anything, it will probably be the best looking Bond film.
Granted, I would say Nolan's Insomniac is kind of similar to Denis' Prisoners, in that they are both much more personal and smaller stories compared to the big blockbusters that put both on the map. But, since Insomniac, Nolan has really leaned into his particular way of filming. At this point, you see a Nolan movie, you know you're watching a Nolan movie. I don't think Denis is necessarily the same.
I'm just typing as I'm thinking, so none of this may make sense. Also, I will reiterate that Nolan and Denis are both 1a and 1b as far as the best Directors making films, right now, in my book. I love them both and hope we get at least another 30 years of films from both these visionaries.
