I didn't see a thread so I thought I'd start one

Severance topped the list with 27 nominations which I don't think will surprise anyone. I've watched all the main contenders and while I don't think it will walk away with a ton of awards, The Pitt was far and away the best show I watched this year. Everything about it was perfect IMO and I can't really think of a weak spot in the series. There should be an Emmy just for Noah Wiley's eye wrinkles.

What are your top picks?

They got snubbed big time, especially in the supporting categories.

Seriously. Where the hell are Genevive and Skarsgard?

Andor getting totally snubbed seems intentional. There is no way people watched that and came away thinking that every actor should not get nominated

Having Pedro Pascal in there for Best Actor is just salt in the wound.

Don't get me wrong he was fantastic in the episodes he was in, but he was barely in this season. How you can possibly have him in there over Diego Luna, who carried the entire season on his shoulders, is beyond ridiculous.

Maybe it Luthen had done a dance with a marching band he could have got a nom.

The fact that Bella Ramsey is even nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama basically invalidates the entire 2025 awards IMO.

Forest Whitaker got a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama so there's one acting nomination for Andor, which is still weak AF. Joe Pantoliano was in one scene in one episode of The Last of Us and somehow he got a nomination in that category as well.

It would be cool if Rebel Ridge wins for Outstanding Television Movie.

I was surprised by Rebel Ridge. I assumed it was just a throwaway generic type film but I really ended up enjoying it quite a bit.

If you liked Rebel Ridge I highly recommend you check out Blue Ruin and Green Room if you haven't seen those films.

Something I saw earlier this year that I enjoyed was Dying for Sex which scored nominations for Michelle Williams, Rob Delaney, and Jenny Slate. The show didn't get much recognition so it's unlikely, but Jenny Slate was so good and it would be really cool if she won in Supporting Actress for Limited Series/Anthology.

This x1000. The only awards her performance or this season of TLOU should be nominated for is a Razzie.

Severance doing well, which is great. For my money it's the most original thing on tv in years, and done so well.

TT and BL won in their categories, but thought this was great:

Andor not winning Best Drama.

I think the voters did their own industry a disservice by giving best series to the Pitt. I haven't watched, it may be great, but if they want continued viability long term they should be rewarding originality, not yet another hospital, lawyer or cop show. People base shows to watch off these awards and that's what you are funneling them to. There are countless competitors for people's time now, gonna take new and interesting things to keep them engaged in new TV. The Pitt didn't even have great ratings already. This will boost it, but many have already tuned out these traditional formulaic shows, a much bigger lift for the industry from the other shows nominated.

I think you vastly overestimate the significance of Emmy's on ratings.

Your average viewer doesn't care about the Oscar's or Emmy's anymore.

You aren't wrong that they should award originality though.

The Pitt's viewership went up 200 percent after its nominations and the Penguin went up 100 percent. For shows that have lower viewership it can be a really big deal. The Pitt, even after the surge is only 60th in viewership this year, they are throwing the spotlight and energy into something that will never move the needle for the industry.
Of course, the counter argument is that folks genuinely thought it was the best show, which is of course fine. But votes have been political for forever, if they are gonna be political, do something that helps your own job status long term.

I mean it was a fantastic show. Probably the best thing I've seen all year.

It was a very good series.

There is always going to be an appetite for medical/legal/crime shows. Shunning that would be against most voter's job status long term.

You should watch The Pitt. Yes it was set in a hospital, but it was anything but a traditional formulaic medical drama.

We watched the first 30-45 minutes. Very weak presentation. The Nate guy from SNL is simply not that funny. I abandoned his standup show on Netflix because it wasn't funny at all.

Milkshake winning for Severance and Milotti(sp?) winning for Penguin are well deserved. They were both awesome.

I did see Colbert won for his show which is lol pathetic. I would be insulted if I were him to win a total sympathy Emmy which completely invalidates the show.

Not sure who Bella Ramsey is. Some anti-American, commie chick yelling F* ICE and Free Palestine won an award. Be nice if they would stop doing that stuff.

I haven't watched an award show in years -- mostly because I don't keep up with modern television/movies so I usually haven't watched most of what is being honored.

But I do like Nate Bargatze and think he is funny -- just not in a Hollywood show-biz sense. He seemed out of place in the few minutes I watched.

Hosting the Emmys is a job for an industry insider. His whole schtick is that he's kinda slow and small town and that just doesn't seem to fly in that setting.

I lasted until the first political statement and then I bailed.

He's good in this "Nobody Knows" skit because of his delivery. Other than that, he's got nothing from what Ive seen.

Anyway, agree he's a fish out of water in that Emmy environment.

I hate to see Andor lose (I don't really hate it because these awards mean almost nothing to me), but the first season of The Pitt was outstanding.

I had never heard of Paradise on Hulu before last night, reactivated my account and watched the first two episodes before going to bed.

Yeah, he is the funniest stand-up comic today IMO. He made me laugh last night, but he was clearly a little out of his comfort zone.
