Loving this new album. Took me about 2-3 spins and reading the lyrics, but after that I'm hooked. Incredibly written songs, some jams tucked in there, and I would say a great modern version of "Outlaw Country." Hence modern. This is not your dad's Outlaw Country.

I tried to listen to this with the kids in the car, the early and aggressive MFer definitely got my kiddos attention.

Favorite Tracks -
Eatin Big Time
Oneida
Bitin List
Down Under
Dirty Ought Trill

I'm more blah on it after a few listens. Was hoping for some truly great new songs and feel that there are some good ones but nothing special and a couple bad ones that are below his standard as a songwriter. Oneida and Nose to the Grindstone are the best songs on the album and those aren't new songs. Bitin List is great but is nothing special relative to the his existing catalog of songs. That said it's not a bad album, just think he got a little to cute with it overall and missed entirely on a few tracks.

At this point it's crazy to me he has released some of my favorite songs ever given how little from him I've liked in over the past 6 years.

This one felt like overcorrecting from the previous clean and religious albums. Disliked the production decisions on most of the songs in this one (most where overdone for me for what I want from his music), and seeing Rick Rubin was a producer kind of makes sense to me.

I did like Oneida a decent bit. Probably would've liked Nose on the Grindstone if I hadn't been listening to the OurVinyl version for 8 years, but that's really it.

So this did nothing for you guys?

" Koala bears get livid when they don't eat eucalyptus
Most of them carry syphilis
Or chlamydia, what's the difference?
All I know is I don't want no koala cuddlin' up to me
I can see it fine from here, it's a pretty cute koala"

After he said he wasn't gonna play Little Feathered Indians because he feels bad for using the word Indians, I'm feeling less interested in listening to his stuff.

I like it. Also very aware of the discourse and all of that, but it's good musically and he's still a top-tier writer. In a vacuum, it's a good album. "Oneida" is old but still a banger. Most everything else is still up to standard.

It took me a few listens, but I like it. It feels like he's going the Sturgill Simpson route of making concept albums.

Eating Big Time is a great opening track.

Saw Tyler Childers at Luck in 2024. Each to their own and I have a lot of friends that love him but I just can't get into his music. And it has nothing to do with the fact that he is embarrassed to say the I word (what the hell is that though anyway).

But since you mentioned Sturgill, his live shows got put back up on nugs the other day under Johnny Blue Skies after they had been pulled for awhile for whatever reason.

Listened to the 3.5 hour Stubb's show two days ago. Absolutely incredible stuff.

I've listened through it 3-4 times and it falls flat to me. I dig Sturgill's weird stuff so I'm definitely not expecting TC to just stick to make old timey country stuff. This just feels like a mess to me without any one song that jumps out as a classic. The title track has so much noise over the vocals I couldn't understand 2/3 of the words until I put on noise cancelling headphones. A few toe tappers in there but nothing that I'll ever listen to in a regular rotation, outside of Nose to the Grindstone which has been out forever.

I felt like several of the songs were really close to being great and there were some great lines but none of them carried the whole song. Bitin List was probably my favorite whole song. Laughed at the koala line in Down Under, the line about preferring methy drugs in Poachers, and the line about mispronouncing the Indian place but hoping for forgiveness since he's a hick.

Been listening all week and I agree it's mid for him. I like the production and the style, but the songwriting isn't up there. The two best songs, or the ones that stick with me, are both old songs (Oneida & Nose To The Grindstone).

A lot of the songs are just too on the nose with their storytelling. Down Under sounds like he was bored on a flight back from Australia and needed a song so just jotted down what he saw on his trip or something.

It's not bad by any means, but Purgatory and Country Squire remain on another level for him.

After a few more listens, if Onieda and Nose where brand new never befored songs. It would be a great album, but those two a cut above the rest. The rest are good, minus Down Under.

I don't get the hate for Down Under. It won't make any best ever lists, but it's catchy.
