Cant believe there hasn't been a thread yet made for this, unless one I saw. Seems to be only released to theatres. I maybe go see a movie once every couple years in theatre. This will be mine to check off. Can't wait. Trailer seems to be pretty good.

I was hoping to see it tonight, but I have a conflict. I will be catching it at the theater next week or sooner, which is a rarity for me these days. My expectations are set at the 65ish% Rottentomatoes level.

I very much appreciate the first one, I reference it often, and I rewatch it periodically, but it's never made it into my list of Funniest Movies. At best, its clever and its about rock music, which I love. I remember renting the VHS in the 80s to watch the first one. You have rarely seen a more confused 14 year old. Is this a real band that I've never heard of? What's with rockers being old? This was before Poison and Guns n Roses even came out, and Van Halen was still very current. And no way was that guy Lenny from Laverne and Shirley!!

Anyways, enough reminiscing. I look forward to it.

these go to eleven. I still reference that to this day, and my kids look at me like I'm crazy.

The original was a seminal comedy movie, I didn't see it until I was college aged ten years after the release. But it stuck with me, quote many lines in normal life - hilarious movie.

In watching the trailer or their recent appearances, I just can't get past how old they look. No offense to the elderly, but they look disturbingly old for this type of role. Having said that, with 80 year old Rolling Stones putting on shows we can agree this is still parodying real life rock and roll.

Saw it last night and I really enjoyed it. Lots of laughs. They paid homage to the original, maybe a bit too much. It was easily worth the price of admission .

Saw it this afternoon.
The best part is the drummers.
No quotable lines; not that I can remember.

my wife and I and two others went to a 5:40pm showing on Thursday. We were the only 4 people in the theater.

It was decent. A few laughs, a few attempts that didn't hit (for me).

I'm glad I went, but I'm sure I'll never (or maybe once, in a moment of nostalgic curiosity) watch it again.

The original was one that I've seen dozens of times and will probably watch dozens more. They did service to the original, but didn't catch lightning in that bottle again.

Thanks for the reviews. I hold the first one in such high esteem, I am hesitant to see this. The trailer seemed off- hard to explain. Sometimes if I want to see a 'sequel' I just watch the unused scenes from the first one. It's like a whole extra movie.

I love the original and have seen it countless times. I have no delusions of this coming close to it. I'm sure I'll enjoy it which is all im looking for. As the poster noted above about no one else being in the theater, I'm just not sure how much of a market exists for this movie and don't see it making a blip at the box office

Well said! I'm glad I saw it, but it didn't have near as many laughs as I was expecting even without comparing it to the first one, which may be the funniest movie I've ever seen.

Sequel 40 years later (1st one grew as cult status and wasn't huge hit)...not recipe for hit.

Marty pointed out in the first movie that their audience was primarily boys. I think that's still the case for the movie, guessing 95% men, over 45 (probably closer to 50 plus). Is that the smallest possible category for the moving going public? Last would be babies, but second to last has to be men over 50

I caught Spinal Tap 2 at the theater. I doubt it will be there much longer, depending on which new movies are coming out or which old ones they rescreen. "Toy Story" was being shown in the room next door, although a puppet show would have been more appropriate.

Two great things about the movie:
1. The ending. Its a bit untraditional. When it was over, and the lights came on I turned around to the other three people in the theater. They were standing there in the silence just looking at me with confused smiles on their faces. I looked back at them and said "Well, that's that". We all started laughing.

2. I love seeing footage of concerts flimed for movies in a theater instead of on a TV. Movies like Almost Famous, Rock Star, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Rock of Ages on the big screen are the closest you can get to being an actual rock star for a few minutes. Spinal Tap had a few minutes of that feeling.

I'm glad I went to the theater to see it. I probably won't make any effort to rewatch it, but if I see a dvd of the movie laying on the side of the road someday, I'll probably bend down to pick it up. More likely if its laying next to a dime or a quarter.
