Coin flip as to whether I should post this in Entertainment or Politics. Good actor, though I prefer his earlier stuff.

He leaves behind a volume of work, both as an actor and director, which I think can be appreciated outside of political views.

The Sting is one of the rare perfect movies.

He was the epitome of cool. How cool is this photo? - he and Paul Newman playing ping pong. I'm guessing during the filming if Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.

He was a giant. Started Sundance Film Festival which I somehow forgot and should be obvious from the name.

"The Candidate" was one of my Robert Redford favorites followed by "All the President's Men".

I didn't realize Redford was born the same week as my father. He outlived my dad by 4 months. What a life. RIP.

Kris Kristofferson was another model 1936 (as the young girls say these days) who we lost during the past year. We're reaching the end of the road for lots of legends.

89. He had a good run. Apparently, he died of The Natural causes.

My dad was born the same year, although he waited until the last day of the year to arrive.

Younger folks don't realize he was probably the biggest movie star in the world over about a 7 year run from 69-76. That included Butch, All the President's men, The Way we Were, The Sting, Downhill Racer, the Great Gatsby, 3 days of the Condor, and Jeremiah Johnson. One of the best stretches for an actor in movie history. A few years later he won an Oscar as a director for Ordinary People.
And then he came back a few years after that with The Natural., which is maybe the best baseball movie ever made..

A true legend.

I don't think it's a maybe. It is the best baseball movie ever made. I also learned in his obituary that he played collegiate baseball at University of Colorado before dropping out of school. Didn't know that.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
All the President's Men
The Natural
Three Days of the Condor
Jeremiah Johnson
Brubaker

Edit to add A Bridge Too Far, although RR was just another very familiar face in that cast

These are the movies that I most remember RR from. I also really appreciated the stature he brought to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in his role as the SHIELD director, which was one of the many things in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that gave that movie a more grounded feel and harkened back to the spy movies of the 70s (which of course, RR was in a famous one in Three Days of the Condor).

RIP

How dare you leave Legal Eagles out of that tribute!!!
Forever stuck in my head due to Debra Winger's hair style and that Rod Stewart song.

A great one. I met him once....very nice actually.

You know that Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah. Well he was there for it staying at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Deer Valley where we were for a ski trip in Jan of 1982 maybe. Met him at dinner in the lodge he had a big group of 12 or so. None of the others were famous I think just people with the film festival which he had founded in the late 70s. Smaller lodge and there were not many people bothering him. But he shook hands and signed some autographs on the way in. I was 16 but certainly knew who he was.

My favorites:
All The Presidents Men
Brubaker
The Sting
The Natural
Sneakers - one of the last movies for River Phoenix

He actually hit the home run in the final scene. I don't remember how many takes it took, but he was a decent player.

I think I may queue up Spy Game tonight, much more recent than a lot of his classics but one of the ones I know the best.
