New 'Stargate' TV Series Ordered at Amazon From 'Blindspot' Creator Martin Gero

Amazon is officially moving forward with a new "Stargate" TV series, Variety has learned.

The new project hails from Martin Gero, who began his career in the original "Stargate" TV franchise. Exact plot details for the series are being kept under wraps. The series will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios and air on Prime Video.


I'm personally very excited about this. Stargate is one of my favorite franchises and it's been 14 years since the end of Stargate Universe. I'm hoping the new series goes back to the more light-hearted vibe of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis.

The fact that it isn't a reboot is huge. Will be curious how they handle where humanity ended the series having the entire Asgard database in the Daedalus and basically being a space faring superpower. I loved the spaceships but the stargate definitely started to take a bit of a backseat at times

I am so damn happy and sad at the same time because this was me and my dad's show. I skipped a Friday night hangout in high school to watch the season 7 finale with the battle of Antarctica. I am sad he won't be here to see it

Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis are two of my favorite shows. Hoping they do this justice, but excited to see what they come up with!

I know SGU wasn't the most popular Stargate show but can I have some type of conclusion to the lore they were building please? That was building to something really cool I feel like.

Can't wait!!! Such a great franchise. Would be nice to get some kind of conclusion to SGU. I absolutely loved that showed. Had so much story potential when it ended prematurely.

Do these shows hold up? I never watched them the first time around. All I know about them is that MacGyver and Flash Gordon are in them.

If it's anything like Farscape which I f'ing loved then I would like this?

I'm SO ****ing IN!!! Stargate: SG1 is so my favorite series of all time! Atlantis was a great spinoff, although I really wish they'd followed through with the standalone movie that was in the works after the season finale and Ark of Truth movie.

Very hopeful for this, especially not being a reboot, even though quite a few characters are seriously long in the tooth. One WAAAY out there idea that I figured world somehow get developed relates to the O'Neil clone that Loki (rogue Asgard). He was allowed to continue as a high school kid, even though he had Col. O'Neill's full knowledge.

Same question here. The only SG I ever watched was the original movie, and I really enjoyed that one. Is there a preferred watching order to the various series?

If you liked Farscape you'd probably like Stargate, especially since two of the main actors show up as regulars in season 8 of SG-1.

By watch order, SG-1 would have to go first. Atlantis started after season 7 of SG-1 and they ran concurrently for a few years. SGU came after both of those.

There were some crossovers between SG1 and SGA. If you are super autistic and need to make sure you're keeping your timelines straight Gateworld has a watch list down to the episode for SG1 and SGA.

Otherwise you can alternate seasons for the crossover period or just watch one show then the other. I personally don't think the crossovers were that substantial to need to go crazy over.

It was the latter. Ben Browder and Claudia Black joined the show later in the series as main cast.

I'm very excited for this. They got most, if not all, of the series creative leads back.

I used to talk with Chris Judge all the time at The Asylum and he was really cool. He did a series of movies there starting with the Hobbit ripoff then Megashark 3 and then Sharknado 3. He was up there pitching his projects he wanted to direct but I don't think he ever did one.

For those planning to watch these, it looks like they are all on Prime. I'm going to start with the original movie which I haven't seen since it came out but recall liking it. All I remember is desert.

Judge in a master Bra'tac role would be awesome. He would be a leader of the Jaffa and be great to bring in every couple of episodes or arcs

Avoid Stargate Origins: Catherine at all costs. Not even sure if it's considered canon, but if it is it's still not worth it and you lose nothing by not watching.

Normally don't care too much about props and VX, but would not be mad if they added a liiiiiittle extra to that department over SG-1.
