Right. They know the diehard fans are going to tune in regardless (at least the first time they try to do this with a fandom) and they are trying to bring in new viewers. I get it from a conceptual business standpoint, but it has been shown to fail over and over.

Are there any good examples of something like this happening and leading to a show that was well-received by existing fans and also a hit with new fans?

They should probably know better in this case considering how big of a failure the Stargate Origins show was.

But it worked so well for Star Trek.

Although, Tony Gilroy was not a Star Wars fan before being brought in on Rogue One and then creating Andor. He learned about Star Wars from wikis.

Yeah prior knowledge or being a fan isn't really the determining factor of success. Its all about intent. And I think most of us are pretty clear on Amazon's intent here: create a watered down product that appeals to the masses.

They're going to make it lame and gay for sure.

Or Stargate Universe.

Universe is Shakespearean in comparison to Origins. A lot of people just didn't like it because of the change in tone and show structure. That's fair enough, but the lore that was getting built towards the end of its run was some good stuff. Absolutely nothing redeemable about Origins.

I like notthebee's take on this. When will they ever learn?
