went and saw it with my two fellow 52-year-old children of the 80s. I liked it, but didn't love it, even though I really wanted to love it.

It feels like another movie trying to capture the perfect blend of action / comedy / heart perfected by the original GOTG in 2014 and just not being able to commit to either big laughs or big action. I could have use a lot more comedy, it had several really funny moments, but they were spaced out, and there were some real lag times between them.

Biggest standouts were Idris Elba as Man at Arms and the guy who played Fisto. Thought Elba did one of the best jobs I've ever seen of a guy who not only loves to fight/defend people but absolutely lives for it in the opening sequences. Fisto was hilarious the entire movie, especially some background throwaway lines.

They criminally underuse Morena Baccarrin as the Sorceress. Hottest actress in the movie was in like 3 scenes.

Huge audience reactions for the cameos of Orko, Dolph Ludgren, and She-Ra. The Orko "what we learned today had me really laughing hard.

EDIT: Over the course of lunch before the movie, my 2 buddies and I determined that between the three of us living in different cities/states for a while, marriage, kids, and everything else that goes along with it; this was the first movie we'd seen together since Anchorman in 2004.

I'm 45 and my favorite toys growing up were He-Man, Transformers, Ninja Turtles, M.A.S.K. and Ghostbusters.

Was it a great movie? No. But I really enjoyed it and I am guessing people around my age with their kids are the main demographic of the people seeing it. I thought Jared Leto was pretty damn funny as Skeletor. Loved that they made Fisto a featured character even though he only appeared a few times in the cartoon.

For those interested, check out The Toys that Made Us season 3 episode 1 or Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. He-Man was a direct result of Mattel passing on the licensing rights to Star Wars and by the mid 80's it was the top selling toy line even outselling Barbie for a brief moment.

I really enjoyed it. Lots of fun and man the soundtrack was awesome. Movie itself was all over the place, but still a fun 2 hours. Sounds like those little sequel teasers are definitely not happening though based on box office

Movie was a fun popcorn flick, but also seemed like it didn't quite know what to be or exactly who it was for. Soundtrack and Skeletor were awesome.

Since He-Man is incredibly campy and kinda homoerotic in an 80's way, I wish this had been a lower budget, super campy comedy type of movie a la Nacho Libre. I think that would have been the ticket to getting more non-50 year old dudes to come see this. Lower budget, more sales, yada yada. But, for what they went for and what it was, it's a good movie, shame it is flopping. Probably banking on merch and streaming revenue to pick up the slack.

It was as good as you can make a He-Man movie. Definitely not worth bomb status.

very niche crossover between He-Man and Craig Ferguson's Late Night Show, but at one point something happens to Skeletor and he says "Balls" , which is something Geoff the talking skeleton on Late Night would say.

The more you know

Weird to me this bombed so hard when it has decent audience scores and people actually paid to go see scary movie.

Not rocket science. Scary Movie dumb comedy possibly appeals to just about anyone 13-45 who just wants an escape and cheap laughs. He-Man, the one they made, specifically appeals to some Gen X dudes and that's about it.

Yeah, I thought that would be obvious.

I feel like this movie came out 10-15 years too late. I'm a Millenial and most of my exposure to the cartoon is through internet memes and Robot Chicken bits. The movie looks fun but its not an IP that I have ties to. Also they may have been better off calling the movie He-Man rather than Masters of the Universe. I get thats what it was originally called but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone under the age of 40 who knows He-Man is from Masters of the Universe.

Probably not, they didn't even allow him to do press for the movie.

My 13 yo son and I saw it last week. I went in with very, very low expectations and was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Cast well and overall a good job. As other have said, definitely not a bomb in a terrible movie kind of way, but I do think the target audience is pretty niche.

I do think if people gave it a try, they would like it. I could see this going the same way Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves did, gaining a much bigger audience when it started streaming.
