Perimeter Poles

Does new age Bonfire allow the assigning and stealing or perimeter poles? Some of my fondest memories of Bonfire are the way that dorms were 'assigned' perimeter poles, and how some dorms 'reassigned' the poles from others.

In 02 we were in the process of reassigning poles when it had to be stopped. A couple minor scrapes and bruises were had. It was decided that it would be best if it was haulted before something happened. Really cant afford for 'something' to happen anymore. Dont know what they did the years after that.

There was reassigning of poles in '03. But I don't think we did it in '04 or '05.

If I recall correctly, in 2003 a few broken bones and ER trips put the perimeter pole mele to an end.

I know they still did it in 2003. I haven't been involved with bonfire since then, so I can't speak for 2004-2005.

I don't recall that. Though I tend to agree we are better off giving poles to those who earned them, and them keeping them.

you new age bonfire pansies.

If you can't keep what you earn, don't come crying when someone takes it from you.

I agree w/puryear pb. eventhough i guess i'm new age bonfire. keeping what you earn makes things more interesting. for bonfire 04 we had a perimeter pole but they gave those out the night before burn. and this past year our boys had a perimeter pole but from what i was told they never really had anyone try and take it from them or anyone else who had a perimeter pole. i might be wrong though. and the whole safety issue is understandable but if you get into a perimeter pole quarrel you should know what you're getting into and suck it up. dont be a little biotch when you have a little bruise here and there.

Well bruises and scrapes go with Bonfire, but if there is anything to broken bones and ER trips then it is not worth putting ASB in a bad position.

Puryear had a piss poor showing this year by the way. Fix that.

From what I saw this year, the night perimeter poles were given out there were some not-so-"hostile" take overs, but more to get ANOTHER pole, not take over one when you don't have one. Regardless I defended a FHK fish "fastened" to their pole from Walton (I think... hell, I don't care who it was, they came weak. Also, perimeter pole hand out was on a Wednesday and no one except those that got one were out there and I barely heard about it.) Maybe next year an overthrow can be orchestrated... believe it!

If a dorm couldn't pull numbers and get work done all throughout cut and the beginning of stack, why should they even bother comming to perimeter pole night to try and 'earn' one by stealing one? It cheapens their accomplishment and lessens what it means to have a perimeter pole to begin with.

Now, If a dorm has a legitimate claim or believes they deserve one, then by all means, go for it. Otherwise, I find the practice moronic and juevenile.

I was at several. '92 was a fun one. Walton had a pole, lost it to a Moore/Moses combo, got it back (M&M pu$$ies had to gang up to take a pole and then couldn't keep enough meat out there to keep it) and then managed to take the CT pole as well until the Reds made us give it back. I had a broken arm, so spent most of my time inside perimeter pulling folks from both sides to safety when things got too heated. (I have a great picture of me beating someone over the head with my cast!) I remember the Moore Yellow got the living **** kicked out of his face. We had to get the Walton guys to tone it down before someone got really hurt. The Moses Yellow managed to wriggle his way under the chains, and nearly lost his whole ribcage being yanked back out when the chain got caught under his ribs.

That was the one year that Walton and Croker got along. Croker allowed us to slowly and quietly gather at their pole and then surprise the M&M "crowd" with an all-out frontal assault. It was carnage.

Even when we weren't fighting around the poles there was an awful lot of stuff being thrown between the poles. All in all it was a fun year. I can't remember who shared the poles with us or Croker, though. I want to say that hhh and the nerds pulled some pretty good numbers that year and were on the poles, but I could be very wrong. My failing memory has proven faulty enough times before.

hey kip95, i was wondering if you could email me some of those pictures you have of your times at Walton. We've talked a couple times, well more like emailed back and forth. I dont know if you remember but I was the 2004 Old Man.

HOGS LEW,

Its funny that you throw insults about Puryear when, without a doubt, OCA was the most worthless, sackless, and unnecessary group of little girls during Bonfire's history. OCA was reknowned for showing up late on cut day, and always leaving by lunch so that they could scurry home to play video game tournaments.

I would rather have been part of a dorm that went out with a blaze of glory than be associated with a simpering gaggle of cleanly dressed pansies that are more interested in a mid morning nap and the afternoon's circle jerk than building Aggie Bonfire.

so run along and pretend to matter

My My, PB, did someone put a dead bunny in your cereal this morning or something?

That's quite a rant over a small tongue-in-cheek comment from the OC Jew. And here I thought the new guys were way more sensitive and thin skinned than the old crews.

Here ya go pb:

Oh, and know your history before you speak, not just your recent Bonfire history, Bonfire history in its entirety.

waltonoldman . . .

I'll see what I can do. I'll have to find them and scan them in. I'll contact you for your e-mail address when I have done that. It may be a while, though, 'cause we are trying to get our house ready to sell.

Let me clairfy: I enjoy a good battle royale, and perimeter pole nights can be a blast. But I think that if a dorm magically pulls a bigger crew than they ever did throughout cut and steal one, do they really deserve it? They're awarded to the outfits/dorms that worked their arses off to earn one; not steal one.

Thats what I meant by moronic.

yes predmid, walton is gay (refering to '03 perimeter poles).
