There are many many unkind yet true things that could be said about the Pope Francis papacy; however what CANNOT be said is that he preached humility and poverty while embracing all of the luxurious trappings of his office. I also give him a huge amount of respect for performing his duties in the "fighting chair" so to speak right up until the moment he died.

In telling my wife the news early this morning, I choked up. A little surprised by it to be honest. Pope Francis passing has affected me and for the better. May he rest in peace.

I agree and I'm sure this will not come off well. I agree this Pope preached love, kindness, and humility. He walked the walk so to speak

But, just MO, there's a hell of a lot more to being the actual leader of the Catholic Church than working soup kitchens, figuratively speaking

The Pope at times has to call a spade a spade, and be a little hard-nosed at times when the clergy get out line. And this is where he failed, IMO. As an administrator, so to speak. Oh, he'd get tough with a few Bishops that didn't play the progressive game. But he was vague, ambiguous, and lax on things like the German church, speaking and acting forcefully on McCarrick until later, and sending mixed messages (at best) on a host of issues

The criticism that he constantly had to explain his meaning, or have someone "clear things up" was not unfair criticism
IMO

Basically, nothing wrong with a pastoral approach, but there's more to it

Yes there is a lot to admire, and a lot to like about Francis. May he rest in peace, and may the college be guided to make a sound decision on our next leader

He was an absolutely terrible Pope. Now that he has passed on it is fair game to critique him. With that being said, this close to his passing probably most charitable to discuss his good.

I often wish he had never been consecrated a Bishop, and had finished his ministry as Fr Jorge, children's hospital chaplain in Buenos Aires.

He's the successor of Peter and was my spiritual father for many years. I am not sad he's no longer Pope, but I can still mourn his death.

Now that he's passed, I have no animosity towards him, he cannot do anything further to unintentionally harm the church.

My grandfathers on both sides were the stereotypical "rock ribbed" conservatives, yet they cried when JFK was assassinated according to both of my parents. It's kind of like that

Welp I had a bunch written out that Texags code decided to dump. Maybe for the good. But I will sum it the best that I can. Maybe I am both blessed and blind to not have the weight of the church on me. But I truly believe the Holy Spirit lifted Pope Francis up to spread the love of Jesus Christ to everyone in the big C. Not just my fellow Catholics but all of man under God's church. I personally will strive to have the humility he showed throughout his papacy.

God bless Pope Francis. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Compilation of the recorded "Habemus Papam" announcements. Pretty neat.

The announcement of John Paul II was particularly stunning. The first non-Italian Pope in 455 years. The two frontrunners were Italian but could not get over the hump, and by the 7th ballot it was clear neither would ever have the votes. The Italian crowd was completely stunned. This is the ABC news live broadcast with Peter Jennings reporting live from Rome as the announcement was made.

This aged well....after Trump trolls about himself becoming Pope. Funny the things the he starts off joking about that actually become more serious over time. And the supporters laugh it off. Would not shock me at all if he trolls a pic of himself on the Cross. And people will make excuses for it and keep supporting. THere are some things you don't joke about.
