There's growing evidence the big five mass extinctions never happened | New Scientist

The article is behind a paywall, but can be accessed via archive.ph if you're open to that method.

Can't read it, but I know for a fact that seismic data from the Yucatn/Bay of Campeche clearly shows deformation in the Earth's crust from an unimaginably violent event that seems best explained as a large meteor impacting the Earth.

Are you arguing that that had to have caused a mass extinction event, contesting the article?

Find a single nonavian dinosaur, pterosaur, or large marine reptile above the KT line. Hell, find ANYTHING big for the first few million years. Your article is garbage.

From reading the article I suspect this might be another case of good science, bad reporting. The title of the article suggests that the mass extinction events never happened at all but the text of the article references a study confirming the mass extinction of aquatic life while questioning how severe the event was for life on land. Not quite the same thing. And the idea that the mass extinction at the end of the Permian was worse for aquatic life than life on land isn't exactly controversial. Previous estimates on how many species were driven to extinction pretty much agree with that.

Can't read it so I don't know what the article says. I can say with 100% certainty that the geologic record shows clear and convincing evidence that something big impacted the Earth around 60 mya in such a violent way that it deformed the Earth's crust. It is quite reasonable to extrapolate that something that violent would have radically impacted the environment, including potentially causing a mass extinction event.

The Younger Dryas was very violent and within Biblical times somewhat, although I do not agree with Tim Alberino, whom I like, that it was the flood of Noah.
