Gotta hope that there is something going on where people will be in Mission Control room, otherwise the 8 year old will have some fun, but you'll be bored outta your mind.

I think the relatively new old Mission Control experience is pretty damn cool.

Hate to say it, but there'd be at least one more shuttle to go around if NASA hadn't made a couple of huge mistakes. At least part of that blame falls on Johnson Space Center.

It really is crazy how often they need to adjust the altitude and pitch/yaw of the ISS. That's actually the reason that the Soyuz launches dock so quickly with the ISS versus the Crew Dragons taking 23ish hours, they have to position the station very precisely depending on the vehicle being launched towards it.

Well that, and the Soyuz just gets up there faster right?
Much of that has to do with the inclination of the ISS's orbit which was set to accommodate the Russian launch site.

It will be nice to have a shuttle back in Houston if it comes to pass….

Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, both Republicans, introduced a bill on Thursday that would move space shuttle Discovery from the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Virginia to a nonprofit near the Johnson Space Center in Houston likely Space Center Houston, though that's not spelled out in the bill.
"It's long overdue for a retired NASA space shuttle to rest at Houston's Johnson Space Center so Texans can see, learn from and enjoy it for generations," said Gov. Greg Abbott in a statement, who is supportive of the federal effort.

This is a huge waste of money. There are plenty of rockets there to tell the story of NASA,

How about NASA getting the first orbital starship or something else new. They have a shuttle even if it wasn't flown

The Udvar Hazy museum is amazing go see it there. But you can't walk in the shuttle there. Taking the family at the end of May

Ugh looking for a father son trip for my 8 year old and wanted to do Johnson, SpaceX launch, Alamo, Texas Ranger and Dr. Pepper Museum round trip. That's disappointing to hear.

Have you ever looked at a map? None of those things are remotely close to each other. Long road trip.

People are in Mission Control 24/7. But the Space Center Houston basic tour doesn't take you there. You have to apply for the Level 9 tour to go to FCR-1 viewing room. Or know someone to bring you as an escorted guest.

I can only remember going when we went through the viewing room - in that case, but that was about 25 years ago.

I worked as NASA JSC twelve years and the first time I went to Space Center Houston I really enjoyed it! So much so I took my mom and wife there on two additional occasions and still found it interesting. That was without the tram tour or access to Rocket Park as well.

Go to Space Center Houston. There's plenty of interesting stuff to see and experience, and it's different than Kennedy Space Center. You'll spend at least 4hrs there if not more. Both are great in their own ways.

Yes, it's a shame that Space Center Houston didn't get an orbiter. But that would be a lot money to put together a presentation experience like KSC. Same with the Saturn V. That might be part of the issue why they didn't get one.

That green glow from the auroras on the bottom of the Soyuz orbiter is awesome. It's almost like the ship is under a black light.

Go spend the morning there. If you're enjoying it stay longer. If you don't like it, bounce over to the Line Star Flight museum.

That itenerary sounds awesome! Can I come?

Wait... So according to this video, a Falcon 9 launched in Florida at 4:35p central. Then 90 minutes later released Starlink satellites, and that's what we're seeing over Texas? 4:35pm + 90 minutes = about 9:30pm?

This is my fault, I thought this video was about what folks were seeing last night but if was from another launch since it states this was a Sunday launch which means it could have been what they saw. Last night's launch lifted off at 8:53 EDT.

Oh, my bad too. I didn't notice the video was from a year ago.

But the video does explain what happened. About 90 minutes after the 8:53 EDT liftoff time, they deploy Starlink satellites, which is what we saw.

The absolute LAST space flight I would want to be on, even a Blue Origin sub-orbital hop lasting only a few minutes.

Quote:

Katy Perry, Gayle King and 4 other women are headed for the 'edge of space.' Here's what that means

Blue Origin is taking a star-studded crew of six female passengers to the edge of space on Monday in one of the most closely watched suborbital space tourism missions in years.

The flight will last about 10 minutes carrying the group more than 100 kilometers (62 miles) into the sky and offering a few minutes of weightlessness before they descend.

But at what point during the flight will singer Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King and their fellow passengers reach "space"?

Yeah I saw that too when I first noticed it. Couldn't figure out what I was looking at until the ring of smoke popped out. I wonder what's going on during the deploy that makes it such a smoke show.

Local media is hyped up about this. The first all female crew since a solo female flow on Soyuz in the 70s.

Bull! 6 women go on a ride. Not to diminish Blue Origin, the vehicle, the ground teams, or these 6 accomplished ladies. But these ladies are just asking for the ride. There is NOTHING any of them have done it will do that will affect the outcome of the flight.

Hyping this as a milestone or historic event for women cheapens later accomplishments that involve actual effort and/or work by bold and talented women.

Edit to add... I'm wishing these ladies a safe and exciting flight. This is an event they'll remember for the rest of their lives.

When your "flight suit" is designed to show off cleavage and it has flared bell bottoms, you know you are really riding a glorified E ticket ride at WDW.

No. She knows why she's there, and it's not for professionalism. She completely understands the assignment.
