Yes they did. A more limited warrant that showed his movements that night. The WSU police in Pullman got that very early.

But the wider one that showed he visited before and after was not until after the DNA match.

This is again incorrect. The first warrant for his phone data was filled on Dec 23, 2022. He was named by the FBI IGG on Dec 19th, 22. They subsequently got more search warrants. That first one only covered 11/12-11/14.

This court filling goes into more detail on Page 4. It is very clear that they did not get any search warrants or have Kohberger identified as a suspect until the FBI told them they made the IGG match on Dec 19:

I read that the traffic stops on the way back to PA were to try to see if he had any defensive wounds on his hands / arms.

Police said they were simply traffic stops and those local cops in Indiana had no clue. Those traffic stops were 4 days before the DNA genealogy came back. He was not being watched or actively investigated at that time.

Yep. Just bad driving.

Also of note - it wasn't just that the phone was turned off or pinged on night of murders. Police looked at patterns and saw the Only night his phone was ever turned off was the night of the murders. How would he explain that every night before and every night after, his phone was always on.
I believe this "coincidence" also happened in the Murbaugh murders.

Did anyone read The Idaho Four by James Patterson? Worth the read?

I did. It's ok. If you have seen One Night in Idaho on Prime, it's basically the same.

Im reading it now. It reads more like a novel. Like when he describes Maddie meeting Bryan at Mad Greek. It was just a dream that one of the friends has had after the murders.

If I read a book on this ever, it'll be years down the line and hopefully after BK speaks up on it. Not sure what the point is in reading that book now, unless you're just now stumbling onto this case

But along those lines, what are some of y'all's recommended true crime books? One of the best I've ever read is American Predator, detailing one of the most interesting and least known serial killers: Israel Keyes. I don't know if I've ever read a book that fast. Was hard to put down.

Have you listened through the podcast True Crime BullSh**? Also about Keys and I think is much more in depth with better research.

When I was in Anchorage a few years ago, I looked up and drove past the coffee shop where he abducted the girl that led to his capture. I think that guy killed many more than are known.

Agreed. That dude was maybe the most natural born serial killer to date

I've seen some about him. I think with his last victim he was purposely trying to get caught.

I know at one point he created a false ransom demand and took a picture of her posed body to supposedly prove she was still alive. I inadvertently came across that picture online, and I'm still creeped out by it.

These are some of my favorites on Audible:

"Extreme Punishment" goes through the details of the conspiracy to murder Dan Markel. It was written a few years ago just before (I think) Charlie's trial, but it sheds a lot of light into the investigation, how the shooters were caught, and the first few trials. It is probably the best summary of the events and investigation that's out there. They had Charlie and Donna dead to rights years ago, in my opinion.

If you want to know about Missouri's own Karen Read style case full of police ineptitude, prosecutorial misconduct, and judge madness, check out "Bone Deep" by Bosworth and Schwartz. Schwartz was the lead defense counsel in the case. I love a good book co-authored by an attorney because it goes into a lot of detail about the trial itself. Once I got into this book I could not stop listening and just binged it for an entire day.

Another book I really like is called "Failure of Justice." It follows a murder investigation which results in a total of six, and you read that correctly, SIX wrongful convictions.

Bill James (the baseball guy who pretty much created the analytics movement outlined in Moneyball) is a big true crime buff. He has a book called Popular Crime. It goes through a ton of crimes from Lizzie Borden to OJ. Best way to describe it is his book reports on the various books he's read on each crime. He basically summarizes books for each and gives his thoughts/theories. Interesting read.

Article doesn't say if they moved him because something happened, or if this was just part of the normal plan.

In Latah Co Jail he took a shower for about an hour every day, since he had a shower in his cell. Assume part of his OCD.

He will get access to a shower every other day for limited time.

On Books:

I'll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara is kind of interesting. It is about her obsession with the Golden State Killer. She ODed a little less than two years before James DiAngelo, the Golden State Killer, was found and arrested, like BK, through DNA genealogy.

Obsession. The Cases that Haunt Us. The Killer Across the Table. Mindhunter. All by John E. Douglas. JED is one of the FBI's first behavioralists. FWIW: I don't really like his conclusions in the JonBenet case. He was hired by John Ramsey and concluded that no one in the Ramsey house could have killed JBR because he met with and knew John and knows he is a good man that teaches Sunday School. There is still no evidence that there was ever an intruder in the house.

The Demon Next Door by Bryan Burrough. This was on Audible and is pretty short. Not the best, but the subject of it - a serial killer getting away with increasing crimes - is interesting, especially coming off of reading about BK.

Reclaiming History by Vincent Bugliosi. You need a lot of extra time on your hands for this one. It is more of a reference book in some ways. It is about the JFK assassination and Bugliosi gets into all the various conspiracy theories. He's very smug, but the sourcing of everything and references are fantastic if you want to do a deep dive into JFK.

Under the Banner of Heaven by Krakauer. He dives into the LDS church as well as some of the fundamentalist off-shoots, one of which had two members that committed a double murder they claimed they were ordered to by divine revelation.

"Evil Has a Name" is a great dive into the Golden State Killer case. I believe it is an Audible exclusive, narrated by the lead cold case investigator who worked it for 24 years. There's a section on his friendship with McNamara. He had gotten close to her and considered her a confidant.

It's not so much a book as it is more of a audio documentary with some news segments, interviews with victims, investigators, the genealogy expert, etc and (of course), a deep dive into the leads and investigation process. They go into a lot of detail of the process of the genealogy investigation and how it actually works. Pretty eye-opening.
