The tories have been in power for 10 years, and have been more left and worse on every metric than the Blair administration prior, including importing even more immigrants than Blair/labour had ever. The results in the UK election reflect the collapse of the Conservative Party, which only got 23% this time compared to 43% in the last general election. The Labour Party only increased its share of the vote by 1%, from 32% to 33%. The Reform Party (Nigel Farage) got about 14%, taking the bulk of the disaffected Conservative voters. Had the Conservatives retained those voters, they might have won a majority of the seats or there might have been a hung parliament.

The UK electoral environment as it is right now looks capable of producing huge swings from one election to another. It will be interesting to see whether Starmer can rein in the whacko tendencies of a portion of his party, or whether they assume that holding their vote share in the low 30's will keep them in power.

lol. Imagine actually believing the government spends tax money wisely. The "tax cuts" never work because we don't ever really get tax cuts. They always promise to recoup the "lost revenues" from somewhere else…ie a tax hike. It's just a reshuffling of the deck.

Give me real, major tax cuts with no increase anywhere else. Simplify the tax code for gods sake. Or better yet, eliminate the income tax entirely, and replace it with nothing. Remove the absurd regulations that make it more difficult to operate a business every year. And yes, this means the government would have to stop spending so much on all the extremely wasteful crap they do. Yes it also means dismantling lots of useless agencies and the bureaucracy. If you do this, we would see an explosion of growth and prosperity. The fact that we never do any of the above is why these "tax cuts" don't ever seem to meaningfully work.

There were a number of reasons the tories lost, some because they weren't conservative enough, others because they weren't liberal enough

They didn't put as much money into NIH as previous governments, and wait times for healthcare are increasing. (Shocker) - government run healthcare sucks. But like all government programs it's going to suck money, and not really get that much better. But people want it, and so they will vote for it.

They also didn't do a good job with illegals (Rwanda scheme, read about it - yes labor is happy with illegals, but tories didn't really do anything practical either.

The tories lost because at this point they aren't competent at anything - they are completely dysfunctional - and nothing showed the dysfunctionality than the rise and immediate fall of Liz Truss..

Guess my wife and I need to travel there in next 10 years before wearing a head scarf is mandatory.
