Let's not kid ourselves. Within the great state of Texas, there is already every crime being committed that you could, and likely couldn't, even imagine. Casinos aren't going to bring in new crime.

I agree that the establishment of casinos needs to be zoned, for a variety of reasons.

Gambling in Texas.
I'll bet on it.

I agree with you on that.
I think that with good regulations, casinos will be good for the economy and will create working places.
Personally, I have nothing against it.

I used to be ok with it. I'm a libertarian. But then my kids grew up and are inundated with sports gambling ads, gambling for fun grooming apps, etc. Clear intent to get them addicted early and keep them addicted and on the dopamine teet.

No ****ing thanks.

Huh. I wonder how they afforded all those devices to see those ads and apps as children?

Gambling is ok. Just like alcohol. Just like tobacco. Just like weed.

People who can't handle it well aren't well suited for it and it isn't my job to police them.

You're right, I could live an Amish lifestyle. Disassociate from society. Home school. In the name of protecting my kids. I'd prefer gambling not be used to manipulate the youth.

Take a trip up to Winstar on a Saturday evening.

One one hand, it's a huge parasite sucking money out of poor victims that look like they might not have enough disposable income to be there.
On the other hand, man it sucks seeing the parking lot 98% Texas license plates.

I'd be in favor of allowing a handful of casinos in Texas within 5-10 miles of a state line that allows gambling already.

Screw casinos. Just head over to the "Stock Markets" thread on the Business forum and learn to day trade. Your odds of hitting a daily jackpot are a helluva lot better and probably just as much fun.

I liked the idea of gambling being legal in Texas, but after the Luka trade, I hope it doesn't happen in the Adelson's lifetime!

Just give people a choice. If they want to gamble, let them. If the market bears it, build casinos.
It's not that complicated.

It's a vice and has historically been linked with degeneracy and moral bankruptcy.

90% sure that the "we want casinos" crowd on here are already gambling addicts. Just because you have the money to support a vice doesn't mean it's not a vice.

Casinos opening up in Texas would be one more reason for me to not come back to Texas when I eventually retire from the military.

I want a state with low property taxes, no casinos, no weed and beautiful outdoor areas to enjoy. It seems each year my options swindle more and more.

Society has always been built on the principle of helping to protect each other from the vices of the world. I love freedom, but this is insanity to equate gambling with freedom. Maybe if we brought back debtors prisons people would understand the evils of a business model built on the principle of taking advantage of the morally weak among us.

There's a very long list of things used to manipulate kids. Gambling is just one.

This discussion would not exist 50 years ago. Just evidence of the decline of the culture.

We used to have tons of legal casinos in Dallas and Fort Worth ~70 years ago, then Benny Binion's sheriff lost the election, and he had to go to Vegas.

I think it's important to delineate debate between brick and mortar casinos and the good/bad they bring into the economy and online gambling.

They are two very different discussions.

Same in Montana. IDC if people want to gamble, but in my opinion it makes everything look trashy.
