Although I'm sure the gathering will be a PITA, but there should be some good data gleaned(if not already available). Maybe Kennedy can use this to figure a way to get kids off their ass.

Of course the pharma lobbyists will fight anything to make our society healthier, tooth and nail.

I remember it from grade school and they would even pinch your waist fat back then!

1) I never heard of the Presidential Fitness test growing up. (Graduated HS in 2000)
2) make it like the military. Fitness test standards and height/weight requirements to move on to the next grade. (Kidding….sort of).

I graduated in 03 and we did it. I was always pumped to get the blue patch

I graduated 20 before that and was also pumped, me and the other half dozen winners got our picture in the local newspaper....it was cool!

I will be interested to see if they lower the standards for the 50, the pull ups, sit ups, etc. I actually showed my kid 10+ years ago my numbers that got me the patch to see if he could match them.

He could.

Who signed your cert hawg?

I was a Reagan kid, which I have conflicting feelings about him due to Nancy's just say no program.

I think it's great Trump is doing this. And make the reward worth it. Kids these days don't value a certificate when the championship tball team gets giant rings.

Oh heavens. Thinking back, had to be LBJ, first term Nixon? When Dad was transferred up north, school I attended did not have that program, or maybe I was not involved with it back then because I played volleyball and ran track. (Remember I was tall for my age, mostly legs so my stride was long. Great for track but absolutely sucked for gymnastics which I loved. Reverse hip circle swings on the uneven parallel bars was just a no go for me. I wobbled too much since my legs were too long. LOL.)

When we were transferred back to Texas, again during the school year, my schedule was wonky because I was in advanced classes. I went to HS in the morning, then to middle school across town in the afternoon with Mom transporting me everyday. I wasn't even in PE that year. I was supposed to be in 9th grade but since I attended HS classes in the morning, the next year I was a junior in HS...at fifteen. Meaning I graduated HS at 17 and college at 20.

Looking back, wish I hadn't been in such a hurry to grow up.

In 2022, they removed my cancerous gall bladder. Once I completed 12 chemo treatments to make sure it didn't turn up in lymph nodes or anywhere else, I ran my first marathon, and have done one a year since. I'll do Boston in April, 2026, but I appreciate your concern.

Pretty sure the liberals explained to us recently that fitness and exercise is strongly correlated to white supremacy.

I graduated high school in 2006, and I had never heard of the Presidential Fitness Test. But I am glad President Trump is restoring it. Americans have gotten much heavier over the last several decades. Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) suggests that the average weight of men in the US is 199.8 pounds. The average weight for women is 170.8 pounds.

Here are the ranges of BMI:
18.5 to 24.9: normal weight
25 to 29.9: overweight
30+: obesity

Based on BMI, more than 70% of US adults are considered overweight or obese. The average BMI in the US is 26.6 for adult men and 26.5 for adult women. Starting in the 1980s, there has been a steady increase in the percent of adults who are overweight or obese. The percent of men with obesity jumped from 13 to 21 percent between 1980 and 1991, while the percent of women with obesity jumped from 17 to 26 percent. This trend has continued for 30 years into the current decade.

I am about 5'10" and weight around 167 pounds. Even after leaving the Army in August 2011, I have continued to exercise 4-5 times per week. I have completed 1 full marathon, 11 half marathons, 6 sprint triathlons, and numerous other 10k or 5k runs.

I still have a pin and certificate signed by Bush 1 in storage somewhere

Oh that's right! I had forgotten you received a pin for those. I was something of a tomboy back then so passing that test was never a challenge for me. I hung out with my older brother and my Dad, a/k/a "The Big Kid" tossing a baseball, playing volleyball or badminton or a game we invented called Womp Ball. Dad had an old set of golf clubs but he never played golf anymore. So he would give us his woods to hit your standard 10 inch plastic ball one could buy anywhere.

Our house backed to a big utility easement so we would see who could hit the ball the farthest. Hitting that ball with the wood club, it made a "womp" sound.

My Dad always played with us. From water skiing at my grandfather's lake house, to tossing around a football, to riding mini bikes with us...through the woods...at night...with the headlight off. Yeah we did some stupid things. "Don't tell your mother," meant we were going to have some fun. My Dad was a hoot.

I remember my daughter coming home from school say that she and her best friend Lauren were beating all the boys in the test and they told them to stop making them look bad. Yes she was a tom boy but is 39 now and still super fit even though she is the mom of an 18 month old.

I passed it easily. I also passed some kind of Red Cross swimming/life guard class when I was 8. Don't mean poop.

Mine was signed by Bush I.

Means so little you recall who signed it 30 years later.

It is chinsy, but sometimes those can still be effective. See convention handouts / trinkets.

Didn't know it ever went away. lol. Seems kinda goofy and a weird flex. I had trouble gaining weight as a kid but either way, I remember just doing the minimum crappy sit ups and cheated push ups, pull ups and walking casually around the track bull****ting with my buddies. Then my morbidly obese PE teacher would use the fat pincher in 45 places around my body trying to find some something to latch on to. Is this the "fitness test" we are now so excited about? All the fat kids we had in kindergarten were fatter at high school graduation. And that was during a time when we were a lot more active as a society. Yeah…. This is definitely going to overcome 40 hours of sloth on a video game every week inhaling bags of cheesy poofs.

Vaguely remember this as a one day "oh crap I forgot to check that box" test the PE coach sandwiched in between the typical free-for-all basketball/dodgeball/whatever activities. Had no idea that it was an organized program.

How will this be implemented? Especially with no dept of education.

Yes there are tons of kids that need to be more active, but it's now another thing for public schools to manage.

I can hear the cries from Democrats now about how Trump is body shaming children.

You'd think this was just so outrageous nothing like this could actually happen, but it will. Or it'll be something along this lines. But he'll be ridiculed for it regardless. If Sotero did it they'd be praising him.

Isn't that McMahon's son-in-law up there standing next to Trump with the beard on the right side of that video I can't remember his wrestling name when he was a wrestler, but I think he's married to McMahon's daughter

Yep that's HHH, he's still married to Stephine McMahon.

That clip was on when my sister and I were at the gym earlier this morning but the caption was about Trump discussing upcoming tariffs. The sound wasn't on and we were both trying to figure out what on earth Triple H had to do with tariffs that warranted him being up there with Trump and Junior. Glad to know it was about fitness and not tariffs.

I remember it in elementary school and junior high. Seems like it was sit ups, pull ups, push ups, 50 yard dash, 100 yard dash and couple of other things….maybe a broad jump or something.
Our elementary was rural. Few city kids attended it at all.
Everybody was farm and ranch kids who had their butts worked off by their dads every day anyway so it was very simple to pass…. for the city kids not so much.
Most of us guys were playing Pop Warner or Junior High football anyway.

I distinctly remember girls doing flex arm hang while boys did chin-ups. Both had to run a mile and do a certain number of push-ups and sit-ups. I also remember that body fat pincher thing and getting our height and weight taken. I'd probably be okay skipping the height, weight, and even body fat percentage checking, but fully agree kids need to be able to do these basic fitness tests. There is no reason an 8-year-old, barring certain conditions, shouldn't be able to run a mile in under 15 minutes and do 50 sit-ups and 10 push-ups.
