Setting up low expectations or just telling the truth?

Actual results for the meeting were DOA from the get go. Putin stated his terms. Zelensky stated his. Neither are going to budge.

IMO Trump is doing this so he can say he tried to get peace and walk away from the whole conflict. Once this is over he can tell the EU/Davos it's 100% your problem now.

The big question down the line is whether or not the EU will try something incredibly stupid like putting in "peace keepers" into Kiev when the Russians roll up to the Dnieper AND then demand the US to participate....

The issue is that I don't see Kiev as 'the good team/righteousness,' so I don't feel a need to put such proclamations in bold or on repeat (and of course Kiev ludicrously claims to down something like 95% of Russian drones so who knows what the Russians are targeting half the time).

I also try not to post 'war porn' links/images of people dying etc. as though I am an excited spectator in some kind of Hunger Games movie. Oh, and my tax dollars aren't being used (to my knowledge) to send the Russians bombs/missiles/intelligence/targeting data, just another small difference (vs. funding both sides in for example Israel v. Hamas. I guess technically we helped fund some of the Iranian munitions industry over the years, which wound up going via components to Russia. Thanks Obama/John F Kerry/Biden.)

No "Old Contemptible's" with ranks of combat-experienced soldiers exist for the Union Jack. Starmer may want to sound like Churchill this year, but the cold hard reality is they have practically zero deployable combat forces to send to Kiev.

Maybe a company-size element. They can't even protect their refueling aircraft (A330's) on the tarmac back in the UK from their jihadists.

Peacekeepers are there as a trip wire not as a deterrent. IF a ceasefire happens and Europe wants it to be honored then Europeans will have to be in harms way. European Soldiers probably guarantee that Putin honors the ceasefire. If he breaks the ceasefire and kills English Polish and French Soldiers NATO would push Russia all the way back to the 2021 borders

AF1 just landed at Elmendorf, with a C-32 right behind it. Looks like Putin's IL-96 is a few minutes out. Two E-3s in the area as well.

Ok I get that, but Russia already stole Crimea during Obama's term and no one is even mentioning it. It's Russian territory now and Ukraine isn't even attempting to get it back.

They aren't getting Donbas back.

But that doesn't mean they aren't getting nothing. Russia should only get Donbas in return for guarantees that recognize Ukraines right to exist and right to enter into treaties for mutual defense (if not NATO then European peacekeepers)
