I caught the tail end of a Hannity radio segment yesterday and he was talking about how Florida has a ton of NY state tax officials chasing down former residents for taxes. I guess NY has some type of residency rules that if you leave you still owe NY state taxes for a few years???

That is correct, it is a state thing, happened to my brother-in-law when he moved to Tennessee. I thought it would be like a parking ticket but he says they have ways of making you pay and with interest and fines. Part of their reciprocity with other states.

Because they are the state and city of New York and can do so until people just settle to stop the harassment.
New York law is they tax any income derived from New York sources. My B-in-law has a pension from work he did in NY so he pays their taxes. He also had to pay tax on his home for a few years after he sold it. I didn't understand that one.
The pension has the fig leaf of justifiable. But the rest seem to be very problematic to me. I can understand the angle of doing a job or a gig or whatever in NY having taxes associated with it. But, if you start a business and then move that business out of state and do no more business in NY, how are they justified in taxing people after the last year the business was there? That makes no sense to me.

It is. I asked him if the new owner had to pay a full year too, he wasn't sure but he thought so. It's a liberal racket

I'm in NYC now, it's been 10 days since the snow storm and there is still garbage piled up everywhere you look.
Mamdani says they're only a day behind though. My NYC coworkers say it's horrible out there, but Mamdani had the trash cleared from the Mayor's residence, so it's all good to him.
