Before my time. I think this would be Patton. This came up when searching for the actual audio and not the scene from the movie.

Literally watched that movies last night…..

Favorite old tv shows and documentaries about America.

1. American Experience. The long-running (36+ years) history documentary series that presents in-depth films about key figures, events, and eras in U.S. history. Television's most-watched history series combining historical footage, expert commentary, and reenactments to explore the American past. Episodes are available on PBS, its website, and streaming services like Amazon Prime.

2. Ken Burns' documentaries.

History of Baseball. History of Jazz. The Civil War. The Roosevelts. Country Music. The Dust Bowl. Jack Johnson. Prohibition. And many more.

3. Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel, The Rifleman, Tales of Wells Fargo, and The Twilight Zone. There's a moral principle or a thought-provoking societal question in every episode. I like that the writers often explored grey areas of right vs wrong and left us viewers contemplating and thinking about it.

I was eight during the Bicentennial. I remember the hype was everywhere, for years beforehand.

Not so much this time around, only seems to get attention when something gets painted blue. Different country now.

If you read a transcript of the speech, you'll see they cleaned up the language for the movie. A lot.

It's George C. Scott from the opening scene of the movie Patton.

Scott was actually a conservative in real life.

the REAL George Patton had a high pitched and nearly feminine voice.

his grandfather is in my book-

he was a Colonel at the Battle of Winchester fighting for the Confederacy and mortally wounded at the Hackwood House.

I had obviously operated under the assumption that the iconic opening scene of Patton was based on an actual recording.

Per the other link above, I believe Patton gave several "encouraging" speeches. Some of you guys who are true historians would know better.

You have to check them calendars. I had an employee whose husband happen to be going the year we went to Badlands / Rushmore. We moved our trip up a week.

My teenage son said it would be cool to come back for it. Fortunately a very leathery both in skin and attire lady walked by. I told her if he wants to see that naked I will bring him back.

He never mentioned it again.
