How long do you want to ignore this user?

I've been in my job with the A&M System for 3.5 years. Due to recent employee changes, I was sent a "revised job description" today that has to be accepted by May 31st.

The job description I applied to, and have been doing the job of to a T, has no travel. 50% is paperwork.

The new job description is 65% travel and I've basically been told "you have no choice." I get that Texas is an at-will State. I have mentioned to my manager from the day the previous employee left that my home circumstances don't allow me the ability to travel (single mom to a minor human and mom to 6 animals). I was told, "You're the only one who knows the material, so the responsibility is on you." Which is a lie. The new Manager that told me that taught the same thing I'm expected to travel and teach.

I have had nothing but positive reviews. There is no discipline on my record.

But the change in my job description means I won't be able to fulfill my job duties, therefore forcing me out

Can anyone offer any insight as to how this is okay? If my job doesn't change, I can plagiarize any number of articles and get put on a PIP, because that's how A&M works. If I don't agree to my new job description, am I out of a job?

HR is there to protect the company, not the employee. Sadly you probably just need to start looking for a new job.

Agree. Keep the job for as long as possible while you seek alternative employment so you don't go w/o a paycheck. Your time at A&M System is basically over.

This stood out to me the most.

If true, they are structuring company knowingly with a single point of potential failure and no support.

If not, they're lying, which is what you already believe.

Either way you lose. I'd accept the job and immediately start looking elsewhere.

And yes, HR is designed to protect the employer, not the employee.

Thanks for confirming what I'm already doing. I'm still in shock that I'm being forced out of my job.

I would submit an unemployment claim based on change in job responsibilities

First, I'd revise the job description to my liking and send it back to them (make sure to do all this in writing). That's the first step in negotiating. After the reject the revisions:

I'd find a new job and give my 2 weeks notice along with a contract describing my ability to work as an independent consultant for 3x my normal salary since they need my knowledge (I am kind of an ahole though).

If you have all the knowledge, you have all the bargaining power. If you are replaceable, they will replace you.
