This will be my first season coaching flag football for a U7 freshman flag football team in houston. I wanted to see what recommendations anyone has for a playbook. Some others have told me about some apps that help organize plays and create plays, etc. but wanted to ask the Genius Bar here. Half the kids will have played a season already and half will be brand new to flag football. Looking for all suggestions on the best way to help these kids. Thanks.

First, good on you for stepping up. It's a thankless job but if you are in it for the right reasons you will get more out of it than you give. For Under 7, I would just keep it simple. Like 6 basic plays they can memorize and execute well. Motion is your friend if they can learn it without false starting. Misdirection also helps if you have a backfield free of defenders. Good luck this season!

Yes I was told that we will basically run the ball every play and will rarely make a pass which helps a lot.

I recommend watching YouTube videos on how to coach FF.

My brother watched YT to learn how to coach his sons 4U T-ball team this year and his team is now 6-0.

Biggest plays in flag football have multiple receivers moving in one direction, flooding a zone, making the defenses read & react that way. Dragging the third or fourth option, underneath as the first wave goes by, goingin the opposite direction. You should be able to read the athetic ability of your middle defenders, their ability to move sideline to sideline & thru traffic.

Back in the day, this was Right Guard or Left Guard.

Congrats on stepping up to Coach. I learned to love coaching in the Corps of Cadets. We had freshmen that had played ball in Houston. That was a helluva good time.

Don't think kids can't do something. At least check to see if you have a kid with an arm. It's like t-ball. The coach who throws it kinda fast and sorta level - teaching kids to hit a ball, vs. the dads that want to arc it in ......nope one huge advantage. Right Guard isn't a long throw. I'm just saying.

That's a young age for flag football. Good luck!
