I swear I got goosebumps watching the trailer drop. This came out of nowhere and finally answers the quintessential game making question. Where modern FFT?
I don't know if this is my favorite game of all time, but it's constantly battling for number 1 at least. And I have been *****ing about this new wave of remasters being full priced, which this one will be, but also, TAKE MY MONEY!
Seriously though, this has been years in the wind for us older millennials who cut our teeth on the old Final Fantasy's. We have been clamoring for ages now for a modern rendition and now we are finally getting it. All new consoles AND Steam. Again, take my money now.
I'm really hoping games like this make a comeback.
They're so perfect for mobile gaming, Steamdeck, Switch, etc. and as an older gamer it's nice to have something slower paced that I can actually relax while playing.
This is probably my GOAT game, tied with FF3/6 - I think I give this one the nod due to the ability to have different job classes.
This was an awesome surprise for me. I never played the original since I didnt have PS1, but I played the hell out of FFTA on GBA and FFTA2 on the DS. I've been waiting for this series to come back for a while.
The only disappointing thing is that I will have to get it on PS5, when I would prefer to play it mobile. I've been thinking of getting a steam deck for a while now (since Switch2 is not going a direction I appreciate), so maybe I'll pick one up and use one of those 3rd party apps that allow you to remote play to it.
F yeah. This game is fantastic, and anyone who runs into difficulty can surely get help from me here hahah.
Very curious about story changes/additions. Maybe they've tweaked it to where you won't accidentally get stuck in a boss battle you can't escape from and can't beat. (Auto-potion was the key, 25 years back)
The original was a happy accident rental from me when I was a wee lad.
I loved all things FF to that point and would basically just rent anything that had that title attached to it. Had no clue what it was and since it wasn't "numbered" as part of the series I was kind of confused as to WTF I was playing.
Little did I know I had the GOAT in my hands. It was enough to cancel out all the horrible rentals from back in the day like that stupid Echo the Dolphin...
I like Tactics Ogre but it can get overwhelming as you go along - I feel like FFT struck that balance between customization without crazy roster micromanagement.
But that opinion is probably colored by nostalgia as I never played Tactics Ogre when I was younger, and I probably would've loved to go that in depth back then. Just don't have the time/patience now to level up 4 of the same class based on what elements they are lol

BTW, I realized this is also coming out on switch, which is my preferred platform to play it. So I'm super excited for that
Welp, some news was finally released. Ripped this from Reddit and confirmed elsewhere.

Hey everyone! I just uploaded a deep dive video on the upcoming Final Fantasy Tactics: Ivalice Chronicles remaster. I translated the brand-new developer interview from Japanese, and it's full of info fans have been dying to know:
What's included in Classic and Enhanced
Why War of the Lions content was not included
New features like full voice acting, UI overhaul, difficulty modes
Design choices straight from Matsuno and the original team
Cool behind-the-scenes dev stories from the original 1997 release
Whether you're a longtime FFT fan or a newcomer, this is a great look at what's coming and what's not. Hope you enjoy it! Let me know what you think or what version you plan to play Classic or Enhanced?
Some direct quotes from the interview:

Quote:
Interviewer: Why did you decide to focus on updating the original FINAL FANTASY TACTICS rather than the War of the Lions version?
Quote:
Maehiro-san: I and other members of this development team were not directly involved in the War of the Lions, but I do believe that the content in that game did fully meet expectations for players at that time.
Quote:
However, as we looked back on everything nearly 30 years later, during the creation of this game, we asked ourselves what our team - those who created the original FINAL FANTASY TACTICS - could do to bring this game to a new generation of players.
Quote:
It was through considering this question that we came to the conclusion that the most appropriate path for us was to pay respect to the original game's experience and recreate that in the best form possible.
Quote:
Interviewer: Did you consider adding elements from FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: THE WAR OF THE LIONS like Balthier, Luso and the Onion Knight and Dark Knight jobs?
Quote:
Maehiro-san: We did of course consider the addition of new jobs, abilities, and characters - including the jobs featured in War of the Lions. However, the original version of FINAL FANTASY TACTICS is a very complete game both from a game design and story perspective. If we were to make major changes, it would only be a loss for not only fans of the original game, but also those new to the title.
Quote:
With this in mind, our first step in reviving FINAL FANTASY TACTICS in the present was to adhere to the original and put a spotlight on the original game's characters and jobs, as well as the original gameplay experience.

The development team were passionate when it came to bringing an experience as close to the original as we could, and as a result we have recreated and used the original VFX and SFX - something I hope fans of the original in particular will enjoy as they play.
Ngl, I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this move. I don't know a person alive today who does not consider the WOTL the complete game at this point. I can see his point from his personal standpoint -- and I 100% do not agree with it. I do not care if it was not your content. Get over it and use it, because it is the complete game. And the point to "let the new players grow with the original content and fall in love all over again with the original intent" is such a copout IMO. Granted, I am extremely biased against their reasoning right now.
Bummed. The onion knight and dark knight classes were my favorite.
GMG has presale up for 20% off. $40 with sale. Just an FYI for those who may be interested. And all GMG game keys are redeemable via Steam btw in case anyone is worried about that. It's a trusted site.
You can add me to the list of alive people that like the original version.
Never played WOTL - so I don't know what an Onion Knight is and Gafgarion is the only Dark Knight I acknowledge.
Ah. You have not seen the light then!
WOTL fixed some translation issues and added a bunch of content, none of it detrimental to gameplay at all. It was literally a boost in everything from cutscenes to added classes.
