My PS5 display says it cannot do 4K HDR at 2160P because the connected HDMI device doesn't support it.

The TV is new (late 2024 purchase) - TCL 98" 4K. HDMI1 is connected via my AV receiver to the PS5. That HDMI supports up to 144hz. It does support 4K HDR.

My AV is a 2019 Marantz SR6014. I noticed it says it is HDMI 2.0 and has 4k 60p/3d pass thru.

Is that the problem? The AV isn't 2.1? If so, if I hook the PS5 directly to HDM1 on the TV, can I still use the eARC HDMI (HDM4) to route the sound back to the AV?

"Yes" and yes. Have you set the HDMI on the Marantz to pass through and/or enhanced (if it has it)? Have you hooked the PS5 directly to the TV to check the cable? Are you using the cable that came with the PS5?

I'm using the PS5 cable to the Marantz. The cable from the M to the TV is an HDMI 2.1 that was hooked up when the TV was installed.

I'll check the M settings first to see if I can tweak anything to get it to work.

It'll be a beating to get another HDMI through the conduit without taking the TV off the wall. If necessary and I'm lucky I can, but I suspect I won't be able to access it w/the TV mounted.

Thanks!

M settings got me closer. It now doesn't say HDR isn't supported, only that it isn't RGB due to HDMI 2.0 restrictions. It won't do HDR in 120hz but 60hz.

I'll find a friend to help get it off the wall to run another HDMI directly to the PS5. I'll do a test on the outside of the wall. If it works (full resolution plus sound) I'll do the dismount.

Thanks again for the help!

Yeah, I think the 2.0 also restricts some of the HDR function, which is why its stating that RGB msg. I think it doesn't do Dolby Vision or HDR10+. Though I can't remember if PS5 even has Dolby Vision.

PS5 has dolby audio but no vision.

Coming from a PS3 it still all looks insane anyway.

Every cable in the chain needs to be HDMI 2.1 for sure.
