I don't need the most expensive ones in the world.

What's a good value combination?

How different are mid-tier priced ones versus high-priced ones?

I have a Trophy Taker Pronghorn rest (~75$) and a Tru-Glo site (~$35). I like the combination. I know you can spend way more.

Quality Archery Design Rest ($70)
G5 Optix Rock Sight is a new one that has gotten great industry wide reviews

I use a Spott Hogg, but those are pricey.

Alot of people use whisker biscuit rest, which is mid price range. I have a rip cord drop away rest with a toxonics 3 pin site. The site was around 100 bucks. I love it. The five pin sight was more expensive but I would have no use for the extra pins. I believe someone on here recommended the Toxonics sight but this was three years ago.

I prefer trophy taker pronghorn drop away rests on both my target and hunting bows and most of the top shooters I know like them.
I use spot hogg sights but the g5 optix line are nice and I've also been impressed by the axcel 5 pin sight that a friend uses.

Quality Archery Design Drop-Away (roughly $60)
Apex Accu-Strike 4-pin (roughly $60)

I haven't been in this too long, but I like this set-up so far.

How many pins for a beginner?

1, 4, or 6?

If I get a whisker biscuit, will I be wanting a drop away fairly quickly if I get seriously into this?

Fall away rest is quieter and quicker but not drastically. You only need one pin, 20 yd, as a beginner. Practice enough at 20 yd and you will learn how to add 5 or 10 yards by just aiming with that one pin. When you are good enough to shoot 20-30 yards with one pin step up to multiples. You could buy a multiple pin sight now and only use one until you are comfortable with more. I have three, 25, 35, 45. 25 yards and below my bow is good with the top pin.

You don't need a special rest if you shoot real or simulated feather fletching instead of that plastic crap.

On my Guardian I use a QAD Ultra Rest fall-away rest and a TruGlo five pin with the light (a must have when shooting from a blind) and I've been very pleased with the combo.
