as someone who has never had the chance to hunt, but wants to learn, i really enjoy the "stupid" threads that get on here. i've learned a LOT about aging a deer, where you are supposed to shoot them, how many different types of rifles there are to shoot one with, how to spot deer in what looks like a landscape picture, etc. heck, i've even learned stuff about duck and dove hunting, and thats something i knew NOTHING about.

so, i'm sorry that you are so skilled and advanced and knowledgeable about hunting, but not all of us are.

and you know what....one day, when i finally get the chance and find someone that will show me how and take me hunting, you are going to have to read the longest most boring post about me getting my first deer and the million questions before it on what i should use to shoot it, and how to go about sizing the rifle for me, etc, etc, etc.

get off your high-horse and enjoy the board. realize that some people enjoy reading all the stuff that you think is crap. if you dont like it, dont open it. but dont try and take something away that is helpful and teaches those of us that know nothing about it.

Exactly why so many people will answer threads like you are describing. Most on here want MORE people in the outdoors, not just those who have done it their whole lifes. There isn't one right way to do everything. Sometimes, the best way to learn is through mistakes (at least when it doesn't involve dangerous or other unsafe mistakes).

Keep on posting your questions and if those who will get pissy about not being able to not click on a thread get pissed... well, F' them.

NW80, enjoy your sabbatical. Get out there an enjoy the wide open spaces, and bring back a decent deer. Don't forget the pictures.

To be honest, it was a thread several years ago involving NW80 that initially peaked my interest with the OB. It involved the damage to people by various bullet types and pistol calibers. There are some things I might argue with NW80 about, but damage to people by various firearms is NOT one of them. He has probably seen (treated) more gunshot wounds than most of the rest of the OB combined. Yet there were posters claiming he didn't know what he was talking about.

I stayed away from this thread, but glad I finally opened it. That was the greatest 7 minutes of my life... ok, day.

Uh, just because someone has not shot more deer than 15 does not mean they have been hunting more than you or actually taken hunters more than you.

Good grief, get over yourself. If you don't want to read something, don't read it.

I know there a number of experts on here in many different areas and I enjoy reading their input. Yes, there are some stupid questions asked but I would guess at some point in your hunting/shooting/outdoor life you may have had the same questions. There are very few times I dispute the posts from people here because I know the we have a lot of outdoor experience on the OB.

It sounds like you describe me to a "T". I don't spend 20+ days in the field hunting deer, nor do I invest $10k every year pursuing it. I don't wait for a lifetime buck to cross my shooting lane. I do, however, know that I love to hunt, I love to fish and I always will. If I get the opportunity to hunt with my brother, daughters, father, it is a good hunt. I don't care if I even see anything. There has not been a fall/winter that has gone by since I was around 7 that I did not hunt.

I did find myself not posting pics of my buck this year. It meant a lot to me because my daughters were with me on the trip. 10 point, moderate spread, nothing to write home about. My kids were glowing. I fully expect within three posts, I would catch s**t from the trophy killers that I killed a baby. Oh, IMO, there were some nice bucks taken this year on the OB Maybe that was the reason.

I had to click the links on brad's post to make sure none of them were mine.

While I agree with many of your points, NW80, there is no need to get pissed about it. I too wonder why the same subjects come up day after day(or it seems they do sometimes!)but I choose to move to another or check back later. I know some of the things I don't care for interest the hell out of others, like age and score of a deer. I could give a rats ass about the age and score of a deer, but there are a lot of people on this forum who do.....To each his own, and let them enjoy it among friends. No skin off my back for sure!

NW80 cracks me up. Seriously, I bet your a blast to be with in deer camp or just sitting around the camp fire....no sh*t!

Most of the time NW80 has some great posts but I think he is off track here. When Sean98 was growing up, he asked several million questions. Some of which I thought were pretty dumb but some of which I didn't know the answer to. While teaching him to shoot, hunt and fish I learned a lot, too. I concede that he now knows much more than me about most types of hunting and fishing. Sean has 6 brothers and sisters (some of them are step) and I have heard many of these questions countless times but I still answer them. I want all my kids to enjoy the out of doors. All of them hunt. All of them fish. Most are not as fanatical about it as Sean but they all enjoy it. I have taught many of his/their friends to hunt and fish (because we can do it in our back yard) and their fathers either can not or will not do it for them. It pleases me to see Sean involved in youth hunts. He is "giving back". I hope we never get too old to help a "newbie" get started.

I stated an opinion that in my experience with different lens colors on sunglasses, that I hadn’t found any significant difference to warrant getting all wrapped up in which color to choose.

I then made a playful joke about the color of fishing shirts. I didn’t mean anything condescending or critical and I’m surprised it was taken that way.
