The first time you see a car get flooded and aren't aware that that is just a malfunction of the electrical system is really freaky

Now opening a 4th floodgate on Lake Buchanan.

There are 37 total floodgates in the dam, just fyi since I was curious.

It's a big dam lake.

We just got back from rubbernecking below Buchanan dam. Even with only 4 gates open, it was impressive. I remember back in the mid 90's when they had most or all of the gates open how incredible it was. LCRA reported that they are releasing 33,000 CFS now.

I wonder if they fly a drone down the dry creek bed first to see if there are any explorers.

are there really any dry creek beds in that area? I could understand they're being one 50 to 100 miles away but there's been so much rain already?

It looked pretty dry to me, at least ahead of that water.

The over flows typically aren't the main stream bed. They link up further down.

Most dams have a siren that goes off before they open gates, and they announced this well ahead of time.

LCRA posted a video to socials yesterday explaining siren operations prior to gate openings.

They cycle the down for 5 minutes before they release a single drop.

Mrs Toddy and I flew into Austin yesterday for a visit with family. I don't ever recall seeing so many green pastures in July.

I drove north out of San Antonio on I-35 on Saturday and made the exact same comment to my wife. It is very green out there relative to the last few years. If it starts to dry out later this summer, wildfires are going to be a big problem with all the growth.

The curse of Texas weather, seems like there is little moderation and the extremes are always fraught with either immediate or imminent future peril.

I guess it is a part of why so many of us love, admire, and learn to cautiously respect it.

It is crazy green and growing in the Boerne area. Don't normally have to mow through July.

Echoing the last few posts. Drove from Houston to Austin to Amarillo to Friona and back this past week to see family. Green for pretty much the whole trip, and good lord did my truck get coated with bugs.

It's like the garden of Eden around Conan right now. Flowers and plants growing in front of all the cameras. Water still in all the dry creeks and pasture looks really good. Heck, even rained more today out there!

Got right at 0.5" near Brownwood this morning. Looking at radar, looked like some heavier showers east and west of me.
