12:45PM - A cluster of strong to severe storms is moving toward the more populated areas of the Rio Grande Valley by 1:30 to 2 PM. Damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, and pocket-change-sized hail are all possible. Be aware of quickly rising waters in ditches and flood-prone areas later today and tonight.

Junction, at night now looks like a zoo with all the deer just invading town looking for food. We had 70% chance yesterday and earlier 100% for today-----Nada! What a rip, but glad areas south of us got some relief. I am a firm believer that due to configuration and topography of 2 river valley's (North and South Llano Rivers) converging on the immediate area that wind currents steer storms away. Others feel the same way.

That turned out to be no joke. It's working across Willacy now.

Rained like a bad motor scooter, and still raining. Supposed totals for the McAllen area are 8" since about 3pm. Some other areas had more. Lots o' flooding. Many schools shut down for tomorrow as well. Supposed to get more overnight. Typical deep STX, dryer than the heart of a haystack for 15 or so months, then get half a years rainfall total in one afternoon.

Rain is a good thing but I wish we could have split that 8" with you guys for 4" north of Uvalde. Hope everyone is safe and no major damage down there!

Friend's ranch between RGC and San Isidro. Was down there over the weekend and it was drier than a popcorn fart. Not now. That place will look like Ireland in a week or so.

Thanks boss, I sure do wish ya'll would get some steady, consistent rain up there. That part of the country is so beautiful and the rivers and springs set it apart. Last times I have been up there it has been so harshly dry that it pained me.

Had to go pick up the MIL from being stranded tonight due to flooded streets. Literally hundreds of cars stalled out and awash, I am not exaggerating. Saw several bad accidents too and there is always damaging floods after a rain like this.

This storm dropped about 12 to 14 inches on Reynosa in Mex, and if the RGV is bad the Mex side is catastrophic, they will be hammered bad. Likely have several deaths.

In about 10 days the mosquito situation down here will be un-Godly.

Last couple days have been glorious. Wish we had even more, but I'm thankful for every drop.

So curious how in the RGV rainfall totals vary so much when the terrain is so flat with no physical barriers to move and break up storms. I guess the Gulf of America, LOL, makes a big difference in all of this stuff as do the funneling mountains in Mex.

I think we can all agree that if we ever get something like Harvey or half a Harvey it will be an epic of all epic disasters, especially to the 2.5mm Mexicans across the river, who will have but one true way to escape the deluge.

Blame the gulf. When you live so close to a large body of water, the chances for training rain bands goes way up.

No tornadoes on the South Plains, but I had an inch of rain overnight and it's been snowing since 11:00 this morning. It melts pretty quickly but it's wet and it's fun to look at.

Looking like we'll get more moisture towards the end of the month with a subtropical jet stream set up, similar to the beginning of April. We need a few gully washers along the Rio, the Frio, Guad, and Colorado.
ttha_aggie_09
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Good! The Frio is incredibly low. We really need a damn near flood out there, especially to help recharge a bunch of folks wells.

if I could guarantee that there would be no human toll, I would be praying for record setting floods on all four. For now I guess I'll just pray for a bunch of mini floods to get us back in good shape.

Hopefully this year is the year the south/central Texas drought finally breaks. Knock on wood, but it's among the longest we've ever seen. We're at a point where we're in a pretty significant statistical outlier and are "due" for a regression to the mean.

Starting to see lightening here in Boerne. Weather app expects 1.3". Fingers crossed that is true and it's not of the hail variety.

Just over an inch. Thank you Jesus
