I went from a casual dipper to finding out about Zyn where I could socially and professionally have one in much more often and that is what really put me in a bind, addiction wise. I would have one in my lip basically 24/7 aside from sleeping for the last 7 years.

I have read plenty of the negative side effects that the constant use of nicotine has on you, but always ignored it.

we just had our 3rd baby and doing the math I realized I could bascially pay for her college with the money I am spending on pouches. finally had enough last week and through my can away. 7 days nicotine free today.

this weekend was rough. Its wild how many things I do that would call for a pouch. You dont really notice it until its gone.

The worst time was after eating a big catfish/shrimp basket Thursday night and not having one. that was absolute hell.

sorry for the dear diary. maybe it will motivate someone. Or yall can give me some advice!

Fully quit 3 years ago.

I did a step down method using a mixture of real snuff and herbal snuff.

I gradually mixed less and less real snuff into the mix until I was only dipping 100% herbal snuff, then I dropped that.

I chew gum now to fight any random cravings.

I was a long time pack and day smoker. By long time we are talking 30 plus years. I ended up in the hospital 2 years ago with pancreatitis and DKA. A month in the hospital to the day. Doc said the two worst things for the pancreas were alcohol which I did not have much of to begin with, and smoking. Needless to say I have not had a cigarette or a drink since and the first year was hell. The worst for me was when I fired up the smoker because that had always been prime drinking and smoking time, then morning coffee on the porch with a smoke, and then road trips and after meals smoking. Was brutal, but not near as hard as a month in hospital.

You can get through it, it helped I had a worse experience I could directly tie to not quitting. Be strong, after the first month it is literally all in your head as your body is no longer physically addicted. But your head is the hard part to convince does not need it. Good luck you can do it.

I've had zero luck quitting nicotine (smoke, dip, vape), but I'm rooting for you OP. Go get'em.

I quit snuff so long ago I can't really remember how. Still chew tobacco when I fish but the stuff has gotten so damned expensive. I think the last pouch I bought was $15 and I can remember paying $0.89 when I was young. I no longer get a big chaw at that price so I can make the pouch last a little longer.

I guess the politicians just keep adding on a sin tax every chance they get.

I quit the day after my oldest was born which is coming up on 12 years. Took my last pinch in the hospital room and decided I needed to be around for my kids and start making healthier choices. I haven't had a pinch or any real type of nicotine since... although, now the science doesn't really vilify nicotine like it used to and it even shows some positive health benefits. I think the biggest draw back still remains on it increasing Blood Pressure but I haven't really dove into the studies because I don't really want to deal with Nicotine again.

There are still times now where I think about it, especially sitting in a deer blind or after a massive meal or even long road trips, but I don't have to jack with buying it anymore and my mouth is 10X healthier than it was when I was going through several cans a week.

It sucked and it is not easy but it is 100% worth it in my opinion. I did gain about 10lbs in the first month and half after I quit but then lost about 12 once I realized every time I was craving a dip I would just go eat. Once I made that connection and then cravings started to fade, it was all gone.

Good luck man!

Forgot to add - I became a sunflower seed addict for about a year or more after I quit. The salt and having something in my mouth helped keep the cravings at bay... all that extra salt and calories also contributed to the weight gain though

I haven't quit nicotine as still use nicotine pouches I order from Sweden.

There are some nicotine benefits:

Increased alertness and focus
Reduced anxiety and stress
Improved mood
Enhanced motor skills
Weight loss

Nicotine isnt bad for you. Tobacco is bad for you. Actually nicotine in moderation has some proven cognitive benefits.

I quit cold turkey new years day 2023. Went from a roll a week of Cope to nothing. At first it was hard, but within a few weeks the cravings go away. Hardest for me was opening day of dove season 2023 with my buddies.

The constant thinking about it goes away pretty quick. Its saved me a TON of cash.

edit: I did put on a few lbs at first so watch what you eat for a while.

Same here and same date. First month was the worst, then I forgot about it. I do get that shredded beef jerky in a can when I fish though.

Took my last pinch of snuff on 04-08-2012 after using Skoal and mostly Copenhagen for ~15 years give or take.

Wasn't easy, had a few setbacks here and there in the process. Didn't tell the wife since I was going to surprise her with it, but that ended up being a poor choice since I was irritable AF and we had some unecessary fights.

But overall, much happier and glad I did. I don't even miss it anymore. That took a few years to get to that point.

I quit doing some of the things that were automatic triggers for a while - didn't really drink socially (especially beer), tried to break my usual routines after eating or doing any type of outdoor activities. Good thing I hadn't fished in forever because it was an automatic Pavlovian action to put a pinch in the second I stepped on the boat.

Biggest thing about quitting is that you have to want to quit. I mean really, really want to quit. If you don't have that mindset already then it is nothing but a waste of your time and effort.

Also - give yourself some type of reward or goal. After a year, go out and buy that pistol or rifle or whatever you've wanted but haven't been able to make yourself get. Every week take the money you'd ordinarily spend on snuff or cigs and put it in a separate bank account to be used for a vacation, hunting trip, etc. after whatever milestone you set for yourself. It helps to have some sort of reward or goal other than just wanting to quit.

I quit social / drinking cigs in 2011 as well as snuff.

Woke up one morning after having a few "drunk" cigs and felt so terrible that it I was able to quit cold turkey. My wife hated it when it when I do it and she was a great support to me when we would go out by gently reminding how bad I would feel the next morning.

Now for snuff, I was living out the country at the time and it cost 4x than Texas. So it made it easy for me due to cost and scarcity of it.

Granted, I will admit that I wasn't an everyday smoker and would go through spells with snuff (from daily to only when I worked offshore to socially). I've thought about having a zyn but have not just as I don't want to get back on that train.

Edit: also, I know a guy that essentially had trouble with one of his kidneys after decades of using various forms of smokeless tobacco. Seeing what he's gone through and how it's impacted his life since, is another motivator for me to not touch any of it.

Thank God for nicotine pouches! I quit Cope cold turkey about 4 months ago with no problems. I had been dipping for 30+ years. The pouches save me money and no more griping wife about spit cups, etc.

The Copenhagen folks could make a fortune if they made a nicotine pouch flavored like long cut.

I finally quit snuff a few years ago. My wife quit smoking the same day. For the first two days we just took way too many colorado gummy bears and that worked like a charm. Day 3 sucked. Day 4 it was over and I moved on very easily. I have not really been tempted since. I do eat a lot of sunflower seeds

I was sitting at a bar with some friends pretty late about a year ago and we were getting it on pretty good and all of a sudden I realized I had a dip in my mouth. I had by habit grabbed my buddies can and put a dip in. It wasn for a few seconds that I realized it and I will admit it tasted pretty good. But after about five minutes I spit it out and that was that. No more.

It is really a mindset. When you are mentally ready it is not that hard at all. You couldn't pay me to start dipping again.

I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

Quit smoking Marlboros in the flip top box back in Feb 1978 thanks to Larry Flynt and Hustler magazine. The back inside cover of the Feb issue had a picture of two lungs. One was large, pink and spongy looking and came from a person that didn't smoke. The other was about 2/3 the size, black and had a white growth circled in yellow about the size of a grapefruit that came out of person that died of lung cancer. Pitched a damnear full pack of Marlboros in the trash and haven't had one in the 47 years since. God bless Larry Flynt.........

I was hoping that was a link to the pouches from Sweden. I think it's time I quit spending so much on the Copenhagen.

Curious why you chose the ones from Sweden over what's available at most gas stations ...

thanks

I quit sometime around 1990.

My dreams about smoking have subsided quite a bit since then, but not entirely. There have been mornings that I would have sworn I smoked during the night.

I order online through Snusme.com XPCT brand Mint Mega Can. Mega Can has 320 pouches at 16mg nicotine per pouch.

So more pouches, more nicotine per pouch and a lot cheaper than buying any roll of nicotine pouches in a gas station here. When I was doing Copenhagen, I was using the Copenhagen rewards & coupons. The coupons helped some but I quit & went strictly to nicotine pouches.

2 pack a day, unfiltered or RYO for 40+ years. Quit in '15 when I was concerned about 24 hours no smoking on trip to Bariloche, Argentina.
Tried once cold turkey and failed. Tried with a Dr friend using Cata Press back in the day and failed.
Was able to quit using Chantix. No rage or suicidal thoughts, but the most vivid dreams I've ever experienced, and I partied in the 70's.
Highly recommend and I wish you luck.

I quit cold turkey 4.5 years ago after being about a can a day guy for 5+ years. I have no advice. I want a dip just about every day, I've just been able to suppress that urge I guess. Several times I've been in a gas station and thought about it, but just force myself to walk out without buying a can. I try and chew sunflower seeds when I'm in the field or on long car rides, and that seems to at least satisfy the oral fixation. The tobacco/nicotine free alternatives are all garbage in my opinion. Black Buffalo is the only thing that's come close.

I did not need to know about this. ^^

I can't remember when I quit but it has been several years ago now. Still use a tobacco-free snuff like Smoky Mountain but usually only in the morning or if hunting/fishing.

I used to chew Levi for years. I still miss it, though I'll never do it again.

But, I realized that it's the habit I miss more than anything, especially during certain activities (driving, fishing, hunting, golf, etc).

Try something like this (the Alpha nootropic pouches without nicotine):
https://fullyloadedchew.com/pages/alpha-products

It's not exactly the same, but it helps get past the craving. Eventually, maybe you can drop them all together and save the cost.

I quit alcohol and restarted nicotine - 3 mg coffee Zyn. 134 days no alcohol. I know zero addictive stuff would be best but for now, this is better. Alcohol abuse was getting really bad.

Dipped about a can of Copenhagen a day at TAMU. Got a spot on my lip that had to be surgically removed and had to switch to cigs due to continued nicotine addiction. I hated cigs, so after 1st year of law school, I quit.
