I recall the Norwegian's dipping snus when I worked offshore and the cans had a secondary compartment on the lid so you could save a pouch if you were not finished with it.

Cannot recall exactly how much more than cope long cut it was but wanted to say they were paying $30 a can when I was paying $4.50. That said as to why they would get as much as they could out of a pouch.

ive picked up a nagging Zyn habit since traveling for work and being back behind the desk at work ... while i get nicotine isnt 'as bad' for you, it has certainly raised blood pressure and wrecked my gut.

Im day 3 cold turkey getting off this stuff, its not doing me any good and im burning through cans a couple days at a time. Def super pissy & tired, but i know its better off if i can kick it.

I always wondered if that was what this was for? These are $4.83 at Valero. A can will last me 3 days. I was burning through at least a can of Copenhagen Long Cut a day. Huge cost savings.

I spit my last dip of Copenhagen out at around 9 pm on July 10, 2014 and have had no nicotine of any kind since then. Experienced typical withdrawal symptoms of brain fog, irritability, skin seemed to be crawling, buzzing in my ears, etc. Once it was out of my system, it was a mind game. I used fake snuff (Hooch) for about a month and then quit that and haven't looked back since. I believe it was one of the best decisions I've made for my health in a long time. It wasn't easy, but if I can do it with an almost 2 can a day habit it can be done. Schmellba was 100% correct in saying you have to REALLY want to quit. If you half a$$ it you're setting yourself up for failure. I know if I ever even bum just one dip off a buddy, it won't be long before I'm buying a can and then I'm right back where I was and I absolutely do not want that. You can do it. It sucks for a while, but it gets better.

I quit smoking when I got married back in 04. Quit dipping a year or two after that. Cold turkey for 3 or 4 years and then bought a can on a hunting trip just to see if I could turn the switch back off. To this day, I'll still have the occasional dip or smoke. Some years, maybe a half dozen times, others maybe once or twice. Once the habit was broken, it was broken. I can dip a can of Skoal on hunting trip or smoke a pack of Marlboro lights on a fishing trip and go months without giving it a second thought.

That being said, I love to smoke and dip. I don't think it's the nicotine, it's the actual action and taste of both. Sitting in a bar playing 42 smoking a cig and drinking beer was my happy place. Having a cig after a big meal just made it feel complete. Sitting in a deer blind with a dip of Skoal just felt right. Sitting by a campfire at deer camp drinking a scotch and smoking a cigar or Marlboro was heaven.

My main reason for quitting was to be healthier for my wife and kids. I've told myself for years, when I get to an age where I can see my final light at the end of the tunnel, I'm going to take up smoking again. If I'm in my late 70's or early 80's and still have the desire to light one up, I'm thinking at that point, taking a year or two off my last 10 or so won't be that big of a deal.

I stopped dipping the day my daughter was born. Started Fish year in 97, was at least a can a day of Copenhagen fine cut, etc. Wanted to quit for a long time, and even told the wife I was quitting when our oldest was born. Never did until our daughter was born. She went to the NICU immediately, wife was recovering from the surgery, and we had a two year old. I didn't have time to think about it. Next thing you knew it had been a week with no withdrawals and kept it up. That was 1/30/15. Just went past 10 years.

Been nicotine free for over 4 years. I used to dip pouches and smoke cigars for about 10 years. I had to stop because my blood pressure was out of control. About a year after quitting cold turkey my blood pressure was normal and I was off the bp medication. I also noticed my sleep was so much better. I know everyone has different experiences, but if you can and want to quit I highly recommend it!

I think a strict nicotine regiment/lapse cycle might be beneficial for me personally. I work an office job and could use the cognitive benefits. Zyn could be a good thing on that front.

I was smoking 2 packs of Marlboro Reds a day when I quit cold turkey in 2006. Woke up one Saturday and hacked up something red and black. Was done with tobacco right then and there. Withdrawal wasn't that bad, or that long. The mental game hung around, but the obvious alternative kept that at bay. ~15 years later I started buying a pack a year for a guys trip. Some years I smoke every one and some years I bum half of out them out. I'm not going back to regular tobacco use.

I've had zero luck quitting nicotine (smoke, dip, vape), but I'm rooting for you OP. Go get'em.

My daughter works in the Med Center in Houston. One of her closest work colleagues is a lung researcher.

He has dissected a lot of lungs that came out of people in their 20's and 30's who had vaped. He was surprised how much damage a vape could do in a short time.

Quit vaping or go ahead and get on the transplant list so you can reserve a spot.

My FIL dipped for 30 years or so and quit about the same time I did, when his first grandchild was born. He used nicotine gum to help him quit and he's now addicted to the gum. Way better alternative but stil not the greatest idea.

Managed to springboard a trip overseas for a couple of weeks into my last (and final) attempt at quitting after almost 2 decades (and multiple failed, similar attempts). Last dip was in October of 2019 my way through the airport and threw away the rest of the can as I boarded. Coming up on 6 years now. Cravings don't ever go away completely. Stress, long drives, working in the field, etc. they still hit.

How you quit is something you've got to decide personally. I'm pretty convinced whether gradual, with the use of pouches gum etc., or just cold turkey is based on individual personality and tolerance. I had to go cold turkey or it was never going to work for me. Sunflower seeds (Chinook Seedery, free plug for those guys) has saved me more than once. I've left a trail of shells on a countless number of docks and ships throughout the world.

No regrets, much less money spent, no more worrying about my jaw falling off some day, no having to explain to my girls what's in that can or cup. Occasional cigar still, but for me that's not an addiction, something to do socially or every once in a while, outside as I work around the yard. Might help with a nicotine fix if I'm being honest, but clearly less of an issue than the Copenhagen.

Good Luck OP!

Nicotine is not good for you. My dad had this disease caused by nicotine. They were about to start chopping his fingers off. The nicotine causes the blood vessels to spasm and reduce blood flow.

Buerger disease - Symptoms and causes - Mayo Clinic

Quote:

Buerger disease is a rare disease of the arteries and veins in the arms and legs. In Buerger disease also called thromboangiitis obliterans blood vessels become blocked. This reduces blood flow to the affected areas. Blood clots may form in the blood vessels.

Over time, the lack of blood flow damages or destroys skin tissue. The damage can lead to infection and death of body tissue, called gangrene. Buerger disease is usually first seen in the feet. It may eventually affect the blood vessels of the hand. Blood clots may form in the small veins of the arms and legs.
People who get Buerger disease almost always smoke cigarettes or use other forms of tobacco, such as chewing tobacco. Quitting all forms of tobacco is the only way to stop Buerger disease. For those who don't quit, surgery to remove fingers and toes might be needed.

As for me, I started dipping at the age of 13. I have quit smoking or dipping a hundred times. One time I quit for ten years. Was depressed this morning and thought about picking up a can on the way to work.

Probably gone about two months tobacco free at this point. I never could quit for anyone else, I had to quit because I wanted to. I understand that I don't have to be perfect for the rest of my life, just don't buy the can today.

I quit dipping 8 years ago. I was dipping at least a can or two a day for close to 25 years. After trying all sorts of different methods, I just stopped cold turkey. As someone else said on here, you have to REALLY WANT to quit.

It does get easier after the first few days...but it takes a few months to really lose the urge. I used to keep track of how much it was saving me. There is a website out there somewhere that will do it for you. That was pretty helpful as well.

The only time I really miss it now is when I go fishing or hunting.

Good Luck!

Good luck to your quitting!

I used Grizzley and Copenhagen for over a decade and quit about 80%.
The hunting/fishing trips and road trips I could not break the habit there.

I have started using ALP pouches.
I do not like Zyn but the ALP pouches work for me.
No tobacco and can have it anytime. Very light use but they are great!

Quit dipping a couple of years ago after being a on and off again man since 9th grade (mid 30's now). My dad had mouth cancer not once but twice and my stubborn self finally said no more when he started his second journey through chemo and surgery. Sobered me up on a lot of things, still have cravings galore but the thought of not being around longer than the ones I love and hopefully kiddos one day breaks my heart a litttle bit. That and I'm a yapper if know me, and I gotta keep that up.

It's worth it OP and to everyone else, just gotta find your reason

Good luck!!!

Wasn't easy, had a few setbacks here and there in the process. Didn't tell the wife since I was going to surprise her with it, but that ended up being a poor choice since I was irritable AF and we had some unecessary fights.

I thought irritable AF was your default setting.

They do. It takes a while. It's been 13 years for me and probably only the last 4-5 where I haven't had the occasional dream where I had a dip or the random thought of wanting or needing one.

I really can't remember the last time I honestly contemplated buying a can anymore.

Had a can of Copenhagen per day habit for 15+ years. Quite twice long term by using Chantix. Not sure if its still on the market anymore (prescribed by Dr. only), but it did work. I'm also convinced Christopher Nolen wrote the film Inception while taking Chantix.

Dipped for 20. My sister died within 2 months of us adopting a baby and I quit as I wanted to be there for my baby.

It's super hard after meals, when driving, when doing outside time, yard work, etc. I will get a can of the tobacco free snuff at HEB when I go on guys trips and I don't have the withdrawal when I get home.

I used Chantix before it was pulled but the generic version (Varenicline) is supposed to be safe.

The Saturday I quit Copenhagen (the first time) I had 17 cans of Red Seal in my freezer. Chantix worked like a charm.

3 years later I made the mistake of taking a dip and went back to it full time. Chantix didn't do squat the second time. Nicotine gum from Costco kept me sane as I slowly decreased using that.

Unfortunately I still get the urge every once in a while, mainly when I'm on campus at football or baseball games.

Good luck!
