Looking for any updates folks might have about the flooding at Camp LaJunta or any of the summer camps near Hunt. Our son is at LaJunta. The camp has texted that all of the boys are safe and accounted for, but any additional information that anyone can share would be appreciated.

[This thread was a resource for people during the flood and the days and weeks after it was over. We did not allow this thread to derail into arguments about who was at fault and we do not want that to happen now. If posters want to discuss the legal issues, lawsuits, hearings, or depositions we ask that another thread be started or poster submit on existing threads other than this. We do not want to ruin what the spirit of this thread was during that time. Thank you for your assistance. -Staff]

What you were told is what I heard too. All kids in La Junta accounted for. They had many on the roofs of cabins and were able to rescue them. My in laws live directly across from the camp and I was on the phone with them while they were talking to LEOs about the kids.

Sierra Vista was canceled today and my daughter was headed there Monday. This was her last year and my house right now is something akin to the baseball and softball seniors finding out Covid canceled their senior season. She is devastated.

They said it has eclipsed the 87 flood. I was at Rio Vista in 87 and vividly remember it.

Rio Vista and Sierra Vista ended their 2nd term yesterday and were to start their 3rd Monday.

I'm obviously seeing this in a different light. Praying for the girls any Mystic and all of the other kids at the other camps.

I'm sorry, but a post like that, without additional info, could be devastating to some people. KSAT reported the camp was evacuated and all were accounted for.

Is there more info that I'm not aware of?
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

My parents in Hunt are up high on a hill but are without power. Neighbor across the road's house was swept away. Dad needs oxygen and his portable oxygen generator isn't working.

Ok, looks like Camp Waldemar is good as well so Facebook rumors there aren't true. My niece luckily left there last week.

Family friend has girls at Mystic, word from them is evacuated overnight but "missing some girls." The news story doesn't refute any of that unfortunately.

Really hope it's all bad information. Prayers.

We are getting more information that LaJunta is completely destroyed but everyone is apparently ok. It was a crazy night. Counselors had to pull kids out of flooding cabins through windows. Really bad deal.

Parents still haven't heard everyone has been accounted for at mystic despite what the county judge has said. Hoping that's not the case.

It would be HIGHLY irregular for someone at the county judge level to put that kind of information out without confirmation.

Family friend has two girls there. Has been in contact with camp director. She said six girls still unaccounted for. Praying this is miscommunication but County Judge apparently misspoke or had bad information.

The statement from mystic was a bit ambiguous. In disaster, "accounted for" can cover a number of conditions.

I think the county judge was given bad information by the people trying to translate the messaging from the camps.

I think it's safe to assume there are fatalities there.

Yea that's probably right.

Just saw a local TV reporter say that they are searching for kids from camps. He could barely get the sentence out of his mouth.

Terrifying.

In the flood of '87 we had two counselors end up in the river just outside of camp Stewart. One spent the night in a tree. The other one was washed out in the hunt cemetery wearing only his boots. All the rest of his clothing had been stripped off of him.
