I heard from a buddy close to recovery efforts that the numbers may be WAYYYY higher than we have been told. The number of people that were out camping etc for the weekend and their families were unaware they were there.

Kerr Co SD has said this in multiple PCs. Not only do we not know who was just camping with families or on private land, RV parks don't always have an accurate number of people in each RV

Blakely's loss really hits hard. I just can't imagine. Her mother has had an incredible amount of loss and really needs all the prayers possible. Amazingly (and not surprisingly), her message was extremely positive and uplifting despite her uninamginable loss.

Where are you seeing a statement from her?

I dont doubt you guys with kids are getting hit harder emotionally than those of us without, but I gotta tell you as someone who is just dreaming of having kids, its still really really not great.

Dermdoc,

I am so sorry for your loss and just gutted by the whole thought of what you and your family have endured. I came across this instagram account the other day and being a baseball fan, I hope it resonates with you. The guy takes photos of players at all levels rounding third and coming into home after hitting walkoff home runs, because he feels like the images represent what it will feel like to enter heaven. I hope that Jesus and all of the angels are waiting there at home to welcome Mary Grace across the plate.

https://instagr.am/p/DEE_2SWxcUy

I feel compelled to say that I've come back to this post and these pictures countless times over the past several days. Thank you, sincerely. Here is the text from the author in the Instagram post for those who may not have been able to read it.

Quote:

I collect photos of walkoff homers because they are an image of heaven.

***

I'm seeing this insight make its way across a lot of people's feeds again, which is greatit has been a way for me to remember the passing of loved ones as an entrance into glory.

My uncle died this year from Parkinson's. He played center field in a local amateur league when he was youngquiet but fast and could hit the leather off the ball. When my dad and his brothers and sisters gathered to mourn, they found this first image to be a perfect way to celebrate his life. Parkinson's takes away so muchthinking of my uncle like this gave them a way to imagine his entry into heaven as a triumphant turn into the arms of friends and family waiting there for him with joy.

Baseball resonates with so many people because it is a representation of the journey we all make in life. We begin with our family in the dugout, then we take our turn in the world alone at the plate. We wander out along the base paths and separate ourselves to see how far we can go. We use our wits and will to advance, and one day we come around third and return home, back where we belong, where we are known, with people who love us.

It's this reunion, this return that echoes in our spirits as hope. We all hope we are not alone in the end, that our loved ones, when they depart from us, are never truly gone. Images like this speak to that hope they spark something within us. We recognize that joy, we long for it, we want it to be true for us as well.

Where did that desire come from? Why do moments like this ricochet around in our hearts? Could it be that we are made for such glory that reunion is strung through our DNA and restoration lives in our bones?

Won't that be what heaven feels like coming home?

Question: Were any Mystic campers lost that were not in these circled cabins? (Not counting any counselors that may have headed to them to help evacuate.)

My daughter knew Chloe, Childress, one of the counselors who passed

My daughter wrote me, "God is so cool, in Chloe's mirror at home before all of this "

Moar tears

this gives me an immense amount of peace.

someone mentioned it earlier on this thread but i had taken some solace in that all of these girls got to say goodbye to their parents when they were dropped off to camp. they gave hugs and said "we'll see you soon" and ran off towards what they knew was going to be fun, full of care and enjoyment, and their parents drove home knowing that their child was loved and in a good place and that they'd see them soon. in a lot of ways id imagine that to be what going to heaven should feel like. joy. peace. both sides departing feeling a bit of sadness but joy at the thought of reunion, knowledge that they'd both be ok, and comfort that they'd see each other soon.

ive been really struggling with the fear that the children must have been feeling while the water rushed around them but this verse really puts things into perspective and gives me a lot of peace.

So looking at that picture, the bottom of the pic has a dam. Is that the dam that was referenced as giving way? Looks like this camp was getting lots of water from two different ways.

Me and the boy found some pink ribbon this morning while sister is at volleyball camp and Mom is at work. I never attended any camps such as La Junta, Mystic etc as a kid but it is something the wife and I are excited about for our kids. My girl is 6 and we were in Fredericksburg over the weekend and this just hit way too close to home. I cannot even imagine. Derm and all of you are in our thoughts and prayers from Coryell County.

I don't think any actual dams gave way. That was a figure of speech from a witness early on. Those are low water dams there simply to create a recreational pool. Water is always flowing over the top.

I think those cabins were unique in that they were immediately surrounded by water. There was no place to go but up for them. Other cabins appear to all have an escape like backing up to a hill, etc.

EDIT: Even those cabins are not far from a hill. The water must've just gotten between them and the hill before anyone realized it. Maybe precisely because three separate flows came together right at that point.

There are various small dams to create swimming areas, I doubt they were a factor at all with an almost 30 foot rise in the river. I think the reference to a dam break was more a description of the wave of water than a literal occurrence.

. Got this this morning from Brazos county A&M club.

BCAMC Family:

We wanted to share a powerful example of Aggie leadership and selfless service. In response to this weekend's tragedy in Central Texas, the student leaders of Student Bonfire have mobilized to respond to the Kerr county's disaster response and recovery operations' direct request to assist with timber, brush, and debris clearing operations on the ground.

These students are volunteering their time and physical labor to help families in need, and they are doing so with remarkable heart and humility. Their advisor recently posted an update on their efforts, which you can read here on Facebook.

The Brazos County A&M Club is making a donation to support these young leaders, but more help is needed. If you'd like to contribute directly to Student Bonfire's efforts in Kerr County, you can donate through their website:
https://bonfire.ag/#support

Please be sure to annotate your gift with "Kerr County Disaster Support" so the funds are directed appropriately. Donations via Venmo are accepted through the link provided on their page.

Their advisor has confirmed that any funds not used directly by Student Bonfire for this mission will be donated to the broader Kerr County relief fund.
Done!

And I encourage anyone that can to join me. Many of my best memories of A&M revolve around Bonfire and the lifelong friends I made as a result of my work around, in and on it. I know they will be a visual perfect example of Texas A&M and the Aggie Code of Honor and I am honored to support that effort.

Yes. I get that about dams giving way and the wall of water is a more appropriate descriptor. I guess I never realized that the circle was surrounded with water coming from three directions AND backing up to a hill. I would be curious to see how the topography and waterflow has changed the landscape with this tragedy.

Two established rivers/creeks plus whatever the extent of the rain shed is brought in by the yellow highlight. I can only imagine what kind of rising effect might happen when you have three flows like that running into each other.

I believe one girl from Jumble House was lost ( but not sure on that.) Everyone else lost was in Twins 1, Twins 2, or Bubble Inn. Apparently as more info has been obtained, it seems Wiggle Inn was the only cabin to have both ridden out the flood entirely inside their cabin and not lost anyone. Hazel had originally told me she thought other cabins did as well but seems to have been mistaken.

Glenn really is a hero.

This is a flood plain map that was created/updated whenever flood data was last updated years ago, it is not a diagram or depiction of the recent event.
