During my time as night watch at Camp Mystic, I witnessed both the serenity of a beloved place and the heartbreak of a moment that changed everything. The South Fork of the Guadalupe River so often a symbol of joy and tradition rose without mercy in the darkness. What followed left me bruised, battered, and devastated, both physically and emotionally.
I want to thank TexAgs for being a steady source of accurate information during a time when rumors and false narratives have made truth hard to find. I continue to seek clarity and a fuller understanding of exactly what occurred that morning. There is still much to process.
One name I want to lift up is Hunt Volunteer Fire Chief Lee Pool a former student athlete, a proud Texas Aggie, and a man who has served courageously on the front lines since July 4. His commitment to his community has been unwavering.
Throughout this painful experience, I've been embraced literally and figuratively by the fathers of many of the girls I was with that night. Though we wear different college colors many being proud t-sips they've offered me strength, understanding, and heartfelt hugs. That is the true spirit of Texas. When duty calls, Texans always come together.
To the families mourning the loss of their precious daughters, please know that I carry your sorrow deeply. I grieve with you and for you. Your angels are in the arms of our Savior now. As Psalm 34:18 reminds us, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
And in Romans 8:38-39, we are promised: "Neither death nor life… neither the present nor the future… will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." May these words bring you comfort in the days to come.
Your daughters brought light and love into this world. Their legacy will never fade. May God wrap each of you in peace, and may this community continue to surround you with strength and love.
