Just finished a trip there with the family (kids 7 and 5). Weather was fantastic, lows in the 50s highs in the 60s to low 70s and clear skies. Some very beautiful and diverse scenery all within a relatively short distance; mountains, rainforest, lakes, and sea shore with tide pools.

Lots of good hiking trails for young kids too that are from under 1 mile round trip to about 2 miles. Plenty of longer trails too for all day hikes and overnight backpackers. We did 2-3 trails at each stop and probably got in 4-5 miles of hiking each day.

Getting there is a bit of a drive from Seattle and lodging and food options get scarce the further west you go. The park is very busy in late summer but we found if we got to our area to explore by 830 there weren't any delays and you could find parking. After 10am is a different story.

ONP is really a great park to visit with kids. Can easily visit magnificent beaches, rain forests and snow capped peaks in the same day. Can drive the loop from Seattle to Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent, Forks, Lake Quinault and back to Seattle over a few days staying at a couple historic national parks lodges.

Kind of what we did that. 3 nights in Forks as "base camp". Then 2 nights in Port Townsend to do an all day whale watching trip with a stop at Friday Harbon in the San Juan Islands. Then 2 nights in Seattle since we were there.

Lived in Seattle for 12 years. July and August are by far the best time to visit the pacific NW.

And establishing our National Parks system was one of the best ideas our government has ever had.

Tidepooling along the coast there was one of my favorite parts of our Olympic NP trip. Glad you got to experience that.

We did Olympic last summer . . . it is enormous. you really have to plan to take it all in.

We did Acadia a few weeks ago and it was a postage stamp by comparison.

We did our honeymoon in the Olympic NP. Stayed in a cabin at Lake Crescent Lodge. Hiked every day for 7 days. It's an amazing place.
