Just finished a trip there with the family (kids 7 and 5). Weather was fantastic, lows in the 50s highs in the 60s to low 70s and clear skies. Some very beautiful and diverse scenery all within a relatively short distance; mountains, rainforest, lakes, and sea shore with tide pools.
Lots of good hiking trails for young kids too that are from under 1 mile round trip to about 2 miles. Plenty of longer trails too for all day hikes and overnight backpackers. We did 2-3 trails at each stop and probably got in 4-5 miles of hiking each day.
Getting there is a bit of a drive from Seattle and lodging and food options get scarce the further west you go. The park is very busy in late summer but we found if we got to our area to explore by 830 there weren't any delays and you could find parking. After 10am is a different story.
