Out of staters calling Texas, "the south", lumping us in with Alabama/Mississippi/GA etc.

Texas is not, "the south".

Texas is Texas.

Ehh, this is kinda dumb.

Yes, Texas is Texas....but we were also part of the Confederate States of America and absolutely included in "the south" when it comes to common nomenclature and description of the CSA during the War of Northern Aggression.

Calling a .308 and .30-06 a different "Caliber".

Ha! Yep, when you hear that, you have to decide, do I want to go full cartridge nomenclature snob on this person or just let it ride!

This is pretty much an exclusive to the OB issue where one has to be the most right and most righteous above everybody else.

In almost every single normal conversation when somebody is asking about, bragging about, talking about, etc. a rifle or pistol "what caliber" is amongst the most commonly asked questions or descriptions about the gun. And the response is always a specific chambering that is universally understood.

Same with shotguns - nobody asks what the actual chamber is when you say "12 gauge" or "20 gauge", although specifying the length of the chamber would be the "correct" way to describe the shotgun specifics. After all the gauge is nothing more than the ratio of the barrel diameter to how many balls of that diameter can be cast from 1 lb of lead.

Another one from the football board:

"trust the process"

Vato, our process has sucked something awful since 1939 - I don't trust a damn thing when it comes to Aggie football, save the inevitable 8-4 and watching either tu, ou or lsu have magical success.

The confederacy lasted all of 4-5years.
We were a state before that, a country before that, part of Mexico, Spain and Comancheria (I stole that word) before that. All of which were longer than the confederacy lasted.
The French claimed Texas for over 70 years and NO ONE will tell you that Texas is French.

The influence here is far and away more southwest/spanish etc than the antelbellum south ever was.

Guess it depends on where you are in the state, because down here the influence is far more southern than southwest. The people, the food, the traditions and the landscape are all far more southern than southwest/spanish. I'm guessing you are hill country area.

And while the Confederacy only lasted 4-5 years, those 4-5 years were a huge influence on the history of the country. To the point it is still talked about today.

Texas is pretty unique in that it fits both in the south and the southwest. Neither is wrong.

"Do what?". It doesn't even make sense in the context of when to it's spoken and just makes my brain melt every time I hear it.

The more recent one is "do better", usually used when someone is taking moral high ground on someone else. It's condescending and absolutist (I'm right you're wrong). My most unfavorite recent addition to the lexicon, kind of a sign of the times though. Everyone lives in their bubbles and always thinks they're right.

The common occurrence of the younger generation to say woman when they mean women.
The changing of out of pocket to mean uncalled for or inappropriate instead of unavailable.

In general:
The word "Amazing". It has lost all significance. Someone puts a plate of food on front of you…"Oh my God, that looks AMAZING!" Someone puts on a new outfit…."Oh my God, you look AMAZING!"
Just shut up.

In sports:
"Arm talent". I want to murder the creator of this stupid ass phrase. He's got a strong arm. He throws a good pass. His arm doesn't possess a ****ing talent.

On TexAgs:
"Arse". You can and should type the word "ass". It was funny for about 15 minutes in 1995 after we all saw Braveheart. Now it's just painfully lame.

When interacting with an employee at an establishment I'm patronizing (mostly at restaurants but not limited to them):
Being called "boss" or "chief". Whatever happened to just "sir"? I'm 51. You're a 19 year old kid. I'm not your buddy. I don't demand respect but just a little courtesy.

"Unboxing". When did this become a word. Whatever happened to just opening something?

Yeah, I hate " boss". It's tired and lame. Just call me "sir".

Eh, I don't mind this one.

It's usually used as "I should sugar coat this, but I'm going to be frank with you" or "It is not in my best interest to disclose this information that may upset you, but..."

I agree. …but that's when I say, "Frankly, …", because "frankly" is what is actually meant.

Exactly. I'm a lawyer and clients have some petty thing they're mad about. That usually goes away after they get my first bill.

100% - when I was in real estate a buyer/seller would bicker over something as petty as $100 repair on a $350k home and all come to a a standstill, then the "it's just the principle of the thing" would come out and I'd end up coughing up the $100 to get the deal to move forward. Hated that crap.

"Boss" is very much prison slang, especially in Texas.

If you hear that out in the world, odds are you are encountering someone that ether was a guest of TDCJ or they worked there. Its not 100%, but the odds are pretty high.
