Didn't apply for archery deer or archery mule deer this go around. Archery isn't as appealing the older I get…

Nine and 4 points respectively..

I cut my apps by about 80% due to cubed points and slim chance of drawing anything for a while. I'll apply to more in about 10 years when I have a chance of drawing although I might have a decent chance at archery exotic for a Nilgai in S Tx. Hoping my son draws a Devils River exotic hunt though.

My kids drew youth gator for JD Mur. My son is pumped and daughter is going because we need her tag to increase our chances.

You never know. I drew BBRSP Mule Deer last year with 3 pts.

They've started. Did not draw any 0 for 8 so far

Another year not drawn, another year hating the cube system. If TPWD actually wants to participate in the R3 initiative, then maybe they should focus a bit more on the Retention and Reactivation parts. Who wants to keep trying when you don't have a chance of drawing because you don't have 24 points in a category.
Praying for September 1 to go a bit better but we'll see.

What does "Pending 1st Draw" mean on the status tab? My brother has this for one of the alligator hunts we put in for but all of our others say "not selected"

I got drawn for Gus Engling WMA Archery Deer, but as life goes something else popped up between entering and when the hunt is. So someone on standby will get my spot.

Welp, I royally screwed up. Got an email saying I burned 12 archery deer points on las Paloma's arroyo unit. I didn't know I put in for that unit…should have only been the Chaparral. But was applying for me, wife and 3 of our kids plus 2 groups of guys for various hunts.

Somewhere in there I accidentally applied for las Paloma's. Super bummed to lose those points. Will be guiding hunts during those dates or would be going just out of principle.

I wish Texas would let you decline your successful draw to retain your points like other states. 2nd time in 16 years of applying I've done that.

Don't let the cubed pts discourage you, I drew an exotic hunt last year with 12pts. There were 10 of us on that hunt, most people were drawn at 6-8 points but there was a couple that drew with 2pts. There was also a guy that drew the highest with 14pts, you just never know.

I've also drawn for Nilgai or WT with Nilgai included 4 times the last 7 years. The Refuge draws have been good to me.

For $3 a pop it's worth it IMO

I lost access to the place I normally hunt, so applied to several drawn hunts this year. I drew an archery deer tag at Roger Fawcett WMA. Anyone with experience here? Looks like a beautiful place to hunt from the pictures I've seen.

5 strikes so far and expecting to be 0/12 when its all said and done.....majority of my hunts are 10+ points

my son drew this one 2 years ago I think. We only live 45 min away but we didn't end up going. Probably band or school interfering but I don't remember exactly. It is a cool area and we go fishing up there in the creek below the dam of Palo Pinto Lake. I've been in a residential development that borders the WMA and there was a big group of Audads along the road so there are a bunch of them up there too. Not sure how the deer hunting is.

yup. between no preference for state residents and cubing, the current system is complete trash.

My oldest boy is now 10 so I put in for a bunch of youth hunts. Not sure if odds are still a lot better for youth than adults but hoping he gets some type of opportunity.

pretty sure his points will carry over once hes no longer eligible for youth hunts...or at least it used to be that way.

I noticed I still had points in there for youth categories, assuming from when I was young. Wonder if they will work towards our applications for him since we had to apply together (youth & 18+ supervising adult).

Awesome, thanks! Hopefully a tank walks out early and then I can chase an Aoudad. Honestly, I'm just looking forward to hunting a new area.

I have also been grumbling for many years about the way the system is set up. I am actually ok with the cubed system, but the out of state equality really bothers me.

I know some folks on here have done public record requests regarding entries etc for the hunt drawing system, but has anyone ever asked the % of total entries from Texas vs other states? I would love to have these numbers, and would love to get it in front of the Commission if there are as many out-of-staters as we all assume.

Id be interested to hear why you're ok with the cubed system. Just to see the perspective.
