Melissa and I will take off for Alaska on Thursday where we'll spend next week fishing out of Naknek River Camp near King Salmon. It's our first time to Alaska and we've been looking forward to it.

Yesterday we met up with some of the others in our hosted trip group to work on spey casting. We'd never done it before and we really enjoyed the practice. We'll be trying it for real with borrowed spey rods while we're at Naknek.

I'll try to post some pics.

Been there several times. Alaska is fantastic!
So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

I spent many many days in the Napa parts store (not in the location it is now) and the hardware store in Naknek that's on the way out to the gravel strip airport. Hit up the D&D restaurant.

Pizza. Mac and cheese pizza with reindeer sausage.

The chicken apricot pizza is also weird and really good.

Ask about the Hard Apple Ale. That's the old name, but anyone there will know what it is, great light beer.

I worked on the slope for 10 years and would always try to get a bite there between flighs.
