I've been looking forward to my fishing trip to Cinco Rios Lodge since I booked my trip through the Fish Hawk fly shop here in Atlanta. I will arrive in Balmaceda tomorrow afternoon and our first day fishing will be on Sunday. I'll report if I catch anything of note.

Wow, that's way into the heart of Patagonia. Hope you have a great time!

I love Southern Chile. One of my best memories are the stars & constellations that one doesn't see in the Northern Hemisphere...such as the Southern Cross.

Not too bad. 9 hours from Houston to Santiago on United. I have another flight soon from Santiago to Balmaceda. I slept better than I ever have in the plane. Of course an extra 100mg of trazodone and a couple of gummies helped.

The one thing I'll never forget about flying to Chile was the lack of jet lag (in spite of traveling in the air for about 11 hours). Left DFW at around 9 p.m. for Santiago. Arrived in Santiago at 6 in the morning. Took a second flight to Puerto Varas which was about 2 hours further south. As I recall, there was only a 2 hour time difference.

Are you my wife? When you take a CPAP machine, bottles of distilled water and weat size 14 shoes it takes some space. The tan bag belongs to one of the guide at the lodge. I'm muling some fishing gear he bought online using his pro discounts.

It is on my list to fish Chile. I've been there snow skiing but not fishing. Man fly fishing is so much fun. I did not start fly fishing until close to 40 years old. My older brother said I wish we has know about this when we were younger and my response was we couldn't afford it when were younger!

Fishing a spring creek this morning. Using leaches with no indicator. Have had several hits but only one landed.

I guess it is still a bit early for the browns to be on reds down there?

Good luck! We just got back from there and had a great trip.

The Estancia fished well for us but th hopper bite is off this year. They had a bad snow year and also very cold leading to low hopper numbers this year.

Give my regards to Flo… she is a great hostess. Good luck at Cinco Rios in a few days!

This afternoon was much better than this morning. Rob Rooks of Fish Hawk caught a 26" brown with a nice kype. I struggled with hooks sets this morning but a combination of figuring it out along with more aggressive hits made things smoother.

I caught several nice browns this afternoon with beautiful coloring. I'll try to get Rob to send me a pic of his big fish and share it.

Today is our last day fishing out of Estancia del Zorro. Tonight we'll move to another lodge, operated by the same folks, Cinco Rios. I thought it would be a good time to share some initial thoughts about this operation compared to Tres Valles Lodge, operated by Patagonia River Guides in Argentina.

PRG is a first class operation and we had a great time there. The cost reflects that. My wife and I joke that it's the Ritz Carlton of lodges. We had a great time and have already discussed returning there in 2027.

By comparison I would say Estancia del Zorro is less expensive and the service comparable. Flo, the manager is very accommodating and cheerful. The digs, while not as luxurious, are still very nice and comfortable. The meals at both places are excellent. To me, Estancia del Zorro seems to have a more laid back, chill feeling than PRG's Tres Valles Lodge. The guides at both know their business but the guides at Estancia del Zorro will keep fishing until dark if you want to keep going.

All that said, both places are great operations. Chile seems to be more culturally similar to Mexico than Argentina which, for. Pearsall boy, is nice. Given the lower cost at Estancia del Zorro, Melissa and I will probably think more about coming back here in 2027 instead of PRG.

You sold me when you said they will fish until dark. I am going to seriously look into that trip, especially since my son will be in college next year and I will have more time.

The skies and clouds look different down there. Have you seen the Southern Cross?

This afternoon was the best fishing so far - sight casting to rising browns with a Moorish hopper. Moving from Estancia del Zorro to Cinco Rios Lodge for the next three days.
