Maybe not an option, but can it wait until October? Fall vacations are awesome because its way less touristy most places because of school, weather is cooler, and gives you a few months to plan.

This is what my wife and I tend to do. Went to Vermont for our Anniversary in October 2022. It was awesome. Went to Acadia National Park near Bar Harbor, Maine last October. That was fun, as well, but we preferred Vermont.

Ended up booking an all inclusive in Cancun. Defiantly not my first choice but my wife loves the beach so I'm taking this one on the chin since I haven't taken her anywhere in 5 years lol

Which all inclusive in Cancun? If it isn't in Costa Mujeres, Isla or Cozumel (west coast), I'd cancel and rebook elsewhere. Most of the Riviera Maya beaches are currently unswimmable. Puerto Morelos Centro, North of Cancun (Costa Mujeres, Puerto Cancun, etc) and the two islands are the only things clear. ANYTHING in Cancun hotel zone is going to be a waste of money.

See bayou's post above.

Book excellence playa Mujeres or excellence coral (both in playa Mujeres area) and don't look back. 30 minutes from airport with included private shuttle.

You're going to get brownie points taking her to either of these places.

I am at Secrets Playa Mujeres on a recommendation from our travel agent who is also a close family friend.

Have any of you guys been there?

We will grab a cheap flight from DFW to San Jose then drive a couple of hours down the PCH to the Central Coast. Anywhere around Cambria, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles and find a bed and breakfast.

Plenty of hiking, fishing, etc. I used to find cheap flights on SWA but haven't looked lately. It's not too expensive and you can pull off a nice 3-day weekend trip.

Lake Tahoe. You can fly to Reno nonstop out of Austin then nice drive to the lake.

Exactly. Just wish there were more direct flights from Houston. With age I have decided I don't like hot beaches in the summer. Mountain lakes , rocks, trees > hot sand, salt water, no trees.
Went to Incline a couple weeks ago and hiked from the tunnel creek cafe to sand harbor. Thats the beach I prefer.

Look up Captain Pulpo and go fishing for a half day while the wife goes to the spa.

And, going to a nice all inclusive and making the wife happy is far from 'taking it on the chin'. Hopefully you have changed your outlook already, but if not, now is a pretty good time. If you don't, you will miss a great opportunity to have a great time. Plenty of fun things to do and fun things to do during the down times. Eat a bunch of tuna tacos and drink cold beer at the pool.

Taking it on the chin would be lobbying for a fun outdoors trip and getting a trip to her great uncles funeral instead.

I was joking lol. I am absolutely going to have a good time.

All I was trying to say is an all-inclusive type place would not have been MY first choice. I prefer more adventurous vacations. We are going to have a great time and I appreciate everyone's feedback here and will review this thread for future trips

You will have a great time and she'll greatly appreciate the break before returning to school.

Start planning next year's trip now so you can have more options and better pricing.

We just got back from Puerto Rico. It's beautiful if you like rain forests.
