Thanks for the updates. I've been in Ohio and am driving back.
I did some pruning the other day for maybe 30 minutes and the chiggers got me pretty good.
They are really awful this year.
Looks like a real nice prolonged soaking coming up from the south for most of the day.

My backyard is feral.
I did not curse the rain. I don't believe in that superstition, but i do prefer blue sky and sun than rain. Give me hot sun all day everyday.
I'll take some more rain if it means it easing up for our friends to the west.
Just a horrific situation. Friend here locally said one of the fatalities was a teacher she had. Hoping the communities can come together and rebuild and recover.
Same friend just reported in that three in a family close to them have been identified as deceased. Keep folks there in your thoughts, this is going to be grim and people will need support.

Immediate rain triggers in my brain
The smell of the oncoming rain
The smell of rain in a freshly cultivated field… nothing more soothing and calming
Seeing rain clouds in the distance and praying it would rain so you could have a break from working in the 100+ degree fields
If it rained to the point we could not work in the fields, we would always have work in the shop to do. Meaning repairs or maintenance on farm equipment under roof at our maintenance building. The good news, Dad allowed me to fire up the pit and smoke some protein, typically pork ribs or brisket on these occasions. On special occasion, bone in ribeye roast.
For some reason on these rainy days, our shop would be the late afternoon gathering place for several of the local farmers. W/O exception, a game or two of dominoes would break out.
Rain, for farmers and ranchers is held with the highest respect and reverence.
Ok, my old ass is finished with reminiscing

Ground is saturated and we don't need rain, but I'll never say no to it, especially when it's a gentle shower like now.
Yep this has been nice. Grass is nice and green and lush, and veggies and tropicals are loving a break from our crappy gross salty tap water.
3.5" on Saturday, 1.75" today. I desperately need to mow my grass, but dont know when I will be able to..
Just got an inch and a half in about an hour right off 30 and Harvey. Had quite the wind gusts come with it too.

In a torrential downpour again. Been raining hard for 5ish minutes now. Will update my rain total later today when it stops, but I suspect I may never get to mow my property. If anyone has kids that want to experience the jungle, just drop them off at my gate at this point...

Another 1.25". So since Saturday, we are just at 6" at my house.
My front yard St Augustine is so long. lol. I mowed my Tif Tuf Bermuda back yard yesterday but had to raise the mower deck. It had gotten too long.
I normally try to mow on the weekend, but last week I mowed after work because there was only 1 day it wasn't going to rain.scd88 said:

This weather sucks
I will never complain about rainy conditions, unless lives or property are in danger. So much better than drought.
Too many farmers / ranchers in my family. Plus, our aquifers, lakes, and streams are stressed.

Yeah 2011 and 2023 sucked. Hard. This summer has been sooooooo nice so far. Grateful for the sky water.
I would be really grateful for enough of a break to cut my grass. Say, at least two consecutive dry, sunny days every week.
Going to hazard a guess that OCD obsessed HOAs will be a little more lenient about lawns given this unusually wet July.
I don't have an HOA. What I have is a muddy hay field.
