Did the citizens of COCS vote for a new field?

The Bombers invested nothing at Travis Field that I could see. They let it become a dump - I would not led my kid play on that field the last 2 years. Hope they do better in CS

Quote:

The city of College Station announced at Thursday's city council meeting it has entered into discussions with the Brazos Valley Bombers to build a new stadium and bring the Bryan-based team to College Station as its new home.

The announcement was made following the executive session at the start of the council's regular meeting.
According to a statement from city officials, "The Bombers have been a cherished part of the Brazos Valley for nearly two decades, bringing championship-level baseball and unforgettable experiences to families across the region. The City plans to develop a new baseball facility to serve as the Bombers' home stadium and advance opportunities for local youth leagues and sports tourism."

The City Council released its own statement: "The Brazos Valley Bombers initiated discussions with the City of College Station about relocating their operations, and we look forward to working closely with them to usher in a new era of outstanding competitive and entertaining baseball in College Station. The Bombers are a valued asset to the entire College Station-Bryan community, and we hope to maintain that strong connection."

Someone please explain why building a ballpark for the Bombers is better than building a ballpark for local teams to use. Don't pretend the park can be both when the bombers will use during prime baseball time for the players who need that size field.

Good news for Franklin I guess. They can continue to capture the revenue from tournament games.

He said something to the effect of a series of announcements that would change the future of BCS dramatically. No disrespect to the Bombers, but this would not come anywhere close to that level.

Make them pay out the nose for Olsen

Unless this is a part of a larger development a College Summer baseball stadium is a waste of money especilly the way they left the former park

we quit going a long time ago

From KBTX:

The Bombers will play at a yet-to-be-constructed facility in the city's Veterans Park and Athletic Complex. In December, the city approved a $1.6 million contract to design three new baseball fields at the park, including a "championship facility" with amenities similar to the Bombers' current home.

I could design 3 baseball fields for $160,000 and pocket the rest.

The COCS really doesn't care about taxpayers, does it?
What better way could they spend money?
More Police? Bah.
More Firefighters? Ha!
Better roads? You are dreaming.

Don't worry about infrastructure, safety, and such silly things! Worry about tourism, convention centers, YMCAs, baseball fields, parks on dumps, hotels, attractions, & spending millions making sure "undesirable" businesses don't open competitive entertainment in the mall.

Get on board the OPM bus!

As one member of council here's my summation of what this is:

1) The Bombers are a fun and successful part of our community and we are happy to ensure they still have a home here in a lease agreement for less than 30 days a year.
2) The facility we will build wherein the Bombers will play will accommodate way way more folks than just the Bombers, but 7 on 7, soccer, little league, the clubs, public use, softball championships and more.
3) Baseball facilities are evolving all around us as we speak, and no one should presume this is it for baseball. The CoB has interest from more baseball entities as do we.
4) This is an amicable departure of the Bombers from Bryan after a storied history, and an amicable move across the street. Nothing more nothing less. I've stayed in contact with my peers in Bryan throughout and have been resolved to not let the petty, silly cities stuff be a part of this. Please help me with that, will ya?

This is a good thing. We are too dynamic of a city to not have a championship venue for a variety of sporting events that serves everyone. And the CoB will likely spruce up Travis Fields and enhance that community asset too.

The petty bickering between cities isn't a part of this. The petty bickering between soccer and baseball, softball and baseball, baseball clubs and all the rest of it- is not a part of this.

The city of CS will maintain its own facility to the standard we maintain our stuff. The design will capture multiple interests and the facility will be used by all.

Of all the things I, as one member of council, am concerned about- this ain't one of em.

We're going to have a cool sports venue(s) and the Bombers will be an important part of it.

Respectfully

I need to know more about the total project cost to the taxpayers, but of the multiple fields proposed the sure appears to be a location that the citizens will use much more than a convention center,

You should see what the city sent me when I asked for expected costs of these new ballfields as well as costs for the ballfields they currently have.

Nobody seems to have any idea what is going on. It appears ain't nobody concerned about what is going on with respect to the ballfield spending

I am guessing here, so take that for what it is worth.
There is a lot of land currently up for sale on University Drive, next to Veterans Park. I would believe that this is where the location will be.

Doesn't seem like they are putting it to a vote.

Like Macy's

Like Chimney Hill

Like the ballfields that didn't happen because we didn't test the soil

The city indicated in response to an open records request that the only evidence they have of a ballfield shortage is that we have fewer than the average per capita number of ballfields for a town our size. That is not taking into account demographics of our town beyond count. Do you have evidence of ballfield shortages you could share with us? Because the city seems to have no good reason to think you are right on this one.

I wasn't saying they (Police & City Hall) were not needed but they were over built and over spent.
Yes, the Fire Dept on University is a perfect example.

If kids can play there then that's great.
PLEASE do a soil study FIRST.

College Station is getting the absolute worst tenant possible. They should have talked to the City of Bryan officials before making this financial decision. They have never held up to their commitments regarding investment or paying the lease payment.

I would like records associated with: - Analysis or presentations regarding the maintenance and operations costs associated with current ballfields. - Analysis or presentations regarding the maintenance and operations costs associated with proposed ballfields. These records would be from January 1, 2020 to today. Thanks, -Brian Alg

Where are the Taj Mahals? We're short on baseball fields. We have no convention center. The largest capital project in city history is a wastewater treatment plant. Sooo, where's the Taj Mahals? What are you alluding to?

Respectfully
Shouldn't the largest capital project in city history be an infrastructure related project? I'm thinking about project's that provide crucial services for our citizens to maintain their safety and welfare.

If the city wants non-infrastructure projects to consume more budget, we have a problem with the fundamental perspective of what a city should provide.
