Just wondering if anyone knows what is going on with the construction on the south end of Longmire (what are they doing and when will they finish?). That end of Longmire has been closed for at least three weeks, and our neighborhood is experiencing a lot more traffic than usual, and I guess because everyone is in a hurry they aren't driving very safely. I'm hoping they get Longmire opened up again quickly - between this and all of the trucks from the construction on the new school it's really gotten crazy out there.

The July 11th estimated completion date isn't looking too likely to me.

I live 200yrds from the roundabout. They've had rebar down for 10 days minimum but never poured when they could. Then it rained a ton on Wednesday and flooded it all. Late yesterday afternoon they finally brought a small pump out and pumped some of it out but there's still water.

No clue when they will finally pour the north bound half. Also looks like they still need dirt work or something else on the far north side of it before concrete can happen. Guessing some utility work has to be done first?

I'm all for improvements and I can be inconvenienced for a bit if need be, but the shear lack of anything happening has me mad.

I really thought they were going to put up traffic signals at some point. A roundabout? I'm kinda shocked they can fit one in… will it actually help? Once that school is operating along with the usual Longmire/Eagle traffic mornings and afternoons, it ought to get interesting.

I couldn't find anything from the link above on Phase 2. I'm guessing that'll shut down the other side of Eagle, which will affect my neighborhood when it comes to traffic.

They've just poured concrete so progress is happening.

A traffic signal is going in at Barron & Longmire and construction should begin by late summer.

Both of these projects are being funded by ILTexas Highschool and are part of their traffic mitigation plan.

Single lane roundabouts ~ 60foot radius and multi-lane roundabouts should have radii of 150 feet. It is going to be interesting.

It is a mini-roundabout with a mountable center island. It should function way better than an all-way stop there

If it is anything like the WJB roundabouts at the Haswell park, then we are in a lot of trouble.

Longmire has always seemed like a pretty wide street but I never thought it was large enough to house a roundabout. I also never thought the speed limit should be as low as it is, especially with no residences opening up directly onto it.

I can see it now: Some fool is going to launch their car going 50 at 2AM off the center of the roundabout.

Been in this neighborhood 20 years now. Seen many fences replaced adjacent to this intersection from vehicle collisions. Nearly been hit a few times myself.

Left on Barron is better off using Eagle. Left on Longmire is easy because traffic on Barron is broken up by the stop sign. Rights are easy too. What is the problem?

I'm wondering if they are trying to mitigate the effect that the opening of the new high school will have on traffic in the area. It's bad enough for just the K-8 traffic at the beginning and end of the school day. Adding the high school will have a significant impact.

I'm sure, but which direction is the problem?

AMs there will be lots of left on Longmire, which isn't better with a light. PMs there will be lots of left on Eagle going to 6 to head south or take the turnaround, or maybe rights on Barron. I just don't see the pattern necessitating a light, even during the school rushes.

Projected volume from the new HS is the reason for the new signal, and was required based on the traffic impact analysis the school conducted. I don't disagree with your logic with the current conditions though.

The city has monitored the intersection of Longmire/Barron for a very long time, but a signal was just never warranted until now with the new HS going in. Once the HS is at full capacity, the signal will be more than warranted.

I thought the signal was planned for Decatur & Barron, not Longmire. Surely they wouldn't put in 2 that close?

When did this occur? I remember when N. Graham crossed the tracks before Rock Prairie had a crossover but don't remember a light there.

It went operational in 1994 (permanent structure, not lights on wires) but I believed it was removed in 1999, so it wasn't long for this world.

Sure it went away only when the roads closed, but you DID ask.

I do not remember it either, but as you say it was removed in 1999 when the road closed... Technically they did remove it, but in practice it did not matter.

So there will be a constricted roundabout at Eagle and Longmire and a light at Baron and Longmire and this is because a study by the new high school has said we will need one or both.

I drive this daily and don't have a problem. Taking a left onto Longmire from Barron is easy. Traffic is broken by the stop signs at the frontage road. Taking a right onto Barron from Longmire is easily the same, except the fences (and shrubberies that the city puts on their rights-of-way) hinder vision. Taking a left from Longmire onto Barron is quite unnecessary as Eagle takes you to the frontage road intersection with Barron. I see no need for a light.

People don't want to take Eagle to the frontage road because the people on the frontage road that DIDN'T cross over and nearly cause a wreck turning onto Graham are still doing 60mph as they pass Eagle.

Then wait until they are clear and then proceed. Life isn't a race. That is what a sane driver would do.

Depending on the time of the day, getting a break in feeder road traffic can be a challenge.

I don't have a problem going that way or taking a left at Barron, but I understand why other people do.

But nice job inferring that anyone who doesn't do it the way you do is insane.
